Kathleen O'Reilly

Kathleen O'Reilly

Kathleen O'Reilly has done nothing extraordinary in comparison to other author bios.  She is not a former CIA agent, nor has she ever been President of the United States (nor slept with him, either).  She graduated from Texas A&M in 1987, which her parents do consider extraordinary and has been married for 19 years, but not to Mick Jagger, nor Justin Timberlake.  No, she merely lives with her husband and two kids in New York, and not even Manhattan, just your typical suburb.  Due to the mundaneness in her life, she has chosen to write fiction, which -- all things considered – seems best. Astrological sign: Sagittarius.  Optimistic and happy, honest and intellectual, yet also blindly optimistic and sometimes irresponsible. Favorite Leading Man: Daniel Craig Favorite Comfort Food: Any Tex-Mex food with cheese (and no, rice is NEVER a cheese substitute in quality Mexican food) If you are insanely curious about me, or my books, go to www.kathleenoreilly.com.

Kathleen Does the Grinch

by Kathleen O'Reilly

This year, several stores will be opening early on Black Friday.  Technically, several stores will be opening on Thanksgiving.  Macy’s will open at midnight (the absolute first second of Black Friday).  Target will also be opening at midnight, although I read where the employees were protesting to decision.  Imagine, Black Friday, a gazillion shoppers and [...]

The Bully Pulpit

by Kathleen O'Reilly

Last week, Dorothy Rodham, the mother of Hillary Clinton passed away. I never knew much about Hillary’s mom, but the story of her life and Hillary’s upbringing caught my eye. Dorothy was sent away from her parents, and raised by her grandparents, who treated her miserably. At the age of 14, Dorothy left home, and [...]

Blogging on the Edge…

by Kathleen O'Reilly

Once again, I couldn’t find one topic that could hold my interest for a good seven hundred words, so I’m scouring the net for news and information to share. It’s all part of my new non-profit organization, Filling Up the Cerebelum’s Kavern with Useless Particulars. First, the world is about to become host to seven [...]

To Do or Not To Do… That is the Question.

by Kathleen O'Reilly

This morning was all about writing the to-do list.  I’m a big believer in writing to-do lists.  Part of it is the ability to cross things over as they’re done, and part of it is fading memory recall.  Usually I like a short, focused list.  Three items: breakfast, shower, write, dinner.  That is my favorite [...]

The Jobs Debate

by Kathleen O'Reilly

Last Wednesday, Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple computer passed away after a long battle with cancer. In the days following his death, there was a huge outpouring of media coverage and public memorials. Now, the media coverage I was expecting, but the public memorials surprised me, only because you don’t hear people say, [...]

Things that Julia London Needs To Know

by Kathleen O'Reilly

As I was thinking of today’s topic, I pondered several choices, politics (BOO!), the mystery of the lysteria tainted cantaloupe murders, why I don’t like Amanda Knox, the demise of the Playboy Club (the series), why I like the new show Person of Interest, and my weird dream last night.   Deciding that Julia London needs [...]

Seeing the USA

by Kathleen O'Reilly

We’ve been in Ocean City, Maryland these past few days, enjoying a VERY well-deserved vacation.  I had never been to Ocean City before, but it sounded like a fun place, and it was within driving distance of New York, and so we opted to visit, and I’m really glad that we did. For those of [...]

Baby, it’s COLD outside

by Kathleen O'Reilly

Far be it for me to complain about cold weather, but hey, I’m complaining about cold water.  It was in the 40s last night and we’re in SEPTEMBER.  Right now, it’s 51 and I’m wearing my wool sweater.  There’s a process we go through, usually in October when all the summer clothes are moved upstairs, [...]

Just Let Go

by Kathleen O'Reilly

Last week, I got some great news.  JUST GIVE IN…, my September Blaze, hit #93 on the Bookscan Romance top 100.  “I was thrilled,” is an understatement.  It’s the last book in the Harts of Texas trilogy, and now that I’ve written three trilogies, I’ve noticed that the last book always sells more than the [...]

Homeward Bound

by Kathleen O'Reilly

Today I’ll be leaving on a jet plane, homeward bound to Big D, my oh yes.  It’ll be a short trip for me, but I’m looking forward to it, seeing the family, eating real Mexican food, and getting a hug from Mom. The temps in Dallas are only in the 90s, which is much preferable [...]

And Kathleen Said, “Let there be Light!”

by Kathleen O'Reilly

Today’s post is on lighting, and my lack of proper thereof.  I blame Wired for the latest obsession – that and faltering eyesight.  Lately when I’m indoors, I can’t see anything unless the lights are blazing full-on.  And that’s the big overheads, not the lamps.  We’re a mix of CFL and the old style incandescent [...]

I Stream, You Stream, We All Stream TV!

by Kathleen O'Reilly

Recently we had a discussion of the beauty of streaming Netflix, and  my family has become a fan.  What is fascinating is how my viewing habits have changed, and I’m okay with that.  We started out watching 24, which is always fun.  In another few years, I’ll be ready to rewatch the entire 24 series, [...]

The Soundtrack of My Life

by Kathleen O'Reilly

For the prior two weeks, the kids have been attending a strings camp put on by the district’s music department.  There’s always a concert at the end of the two weeks, and this year, the theme was movie soundtracks, and it was a blast.  The high school symphony orchestra did a John Williams tribute, and [...]

Saturday’s Child

by Kathleen O'Reilly

So, today is the day to write about the book, and today, I think I’m going to write about Brooke Hart, the heroine in my September book, JUST GIVE IN…. There’s an old poem about the children born on different days of the week: Mondays child is fair of face, Tuesdays child is full of [...]

Lady Jane’s Salon

by Kathleen O'Reilly

For those of you who aren’t in the know, there’s a clandestine little reading salon that meets in every month down in the Village in New York City.  It’s called Lady Jane’s salon, a throwback to by-gone days when curtains were red velvet, couches were called settees, and the glasses were always overflowing. View Madame [...]

Friday Goulash!

by Kathleen O'Reilly

Today’s blog is one of those goulash sort of compendiums of whatever things I want to discuss, and first on my list is BART. Bart is the name of the chipmunk that scurries back and forth along the bricks, looking cute and innocent. HOWEVER, do not be deceived by the cautious, shy demeanor and the [...]

One Small Landing for Man, One Giant Sadness for Mankind

by Kathleen O'Reilly

This morning, the shuttle Atlantis landed at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, pulling onto the runway with a succinct, “Mission complete, Houston.” This is the last of the thirty-year shuttle program, and a hard one for me to let go.  Yes,  we’ll soon have commercial space flights, and yes, we’ll be hitching rides with the [...]

Hacked Off

by Kathleen O'Reilly

Recently I have become very peeved at technology, actually, not so recently.  It’s been a slow, simmering burn, directly correlated to the amount of time I have to spend dealing with credit card accounts, userids, and passwords. To be fair to the credit card companies, they have always been  banking-johnny-on-the-spot when our accounts were compromised.  [...]

Girl’s Night Out!

by Kathleen O'Reilly

The book that I’ve been working on celebrates the power of female friends. It is something that I know a lot about because I have some of the bestest female friends in the world. All of the ladies on this blog stand tall whenever times are tough. Made me laugh. Watched me cry. Saw the [...]
