Jacquie D'Alessandro

Jacquie D'Alessandro is the New York Times and USAToday Bestselling author of more than 30 books. She grew up on Long Island, NY, where she fell in love with romance at an early age. She dreamed of being swept away by a dashing rogue riding a spirited stallion. When her hero finally showed up, he was dressed in jeans and drove a Volkswagen, but she recognized him anyway. They married after both graduating from Hofstra University and are now living their happily-ever-afters in Atlanta, Georgia, along with their son, who is a dashing rogue in the making, and Kennesaw the cat, who kindly allows them to reside in HER house. Jacquie's won a few writing awards (probably her mom was a judge), and was famously a RITA finalist this past summer in the same category as Julia London. Sadly, they cancelled each other out and both lost, although that might be good as it prevented a throw down of epic proportions. Jacquie writes both contemporary and Regency-era historical romances filled with two of her favorite things-- love and laughter. She is honored to be a Whine Sister, yet is torn over which title she likes better-- Whiner, or Wino? Although, why choose? She'll just take both-- with a side of Brie and grapes, if you please.

Jacquie lives in Atlanta, Georgia. You can read more about her and her books at jacquied.com

Gotta love those doggies!

by Jacquie D'Alessandro

When I was growing up, we always had a cat and a dog–terrific pets that shared our lives. When we moved to Atlanta in 1994, we acquired an abandoned kitten who stole our hearts for the next 16 years. We also had other assorted pets–a hamster named Mr. Nibbles (so cute!) and a bunny named Callie (who [...]

What’s new?

by Jacquie D'Alessandro

Lots of fun stuff has happened since my last post, so I thought I’d share. First, I accompanied the DH to a conference in Phoenix, Arizona. I love going to his conferences because they always take place at some swanky resort. This time was no different–we stayed at the Biltmore. Gorgeous hotel, beautiful grounds, and a first class spa. We swam and [...]

Gearing up for the Big Romantic Day!

by Jacquie D'Alessandro

I’ve always liked Valentine’s Day–what’s not to like about a holiday that revolves around love, flowers and chocolate? But I discovered something yesterday that has shot Valentine’s Day waaaaay up the I LOVE IT meter for me. As I was wandering through a World Market store, I discovered these: Yes, those are Valentine’s Day Peeps. [...]

SH*T HAPPENS

by Jacquie D'Alessandro

Yesterday was quite the banner day at Casa D’Alessandro that encompassed the good, the bad and the ugly.  It started off with the ugly in the morning when the DH went into the attic above the garage to make sure it was clear because the electricians were coming to put in some additional outlets and lights and would need to access [...]

Late blog post–and good news!

by Jacquie D'Alessandro

Hey gang: Sorry for the late post–I just got home from the car repair shop where I’ve been since leaving the house at 6:30 am (to be there when they opened). UGH! I hate car problems–they make me feel so stupid because I know ZILCH about cars. Good news–problem can be fixed. Bad news–it cost [...]

Tradition!

by Jacquie D'Alessandro

Ever since I was a kid, we always ate pickled herring on New Year’s Eve–a family tradition I brought forward as an adult to my own family. My mom told me it was “for luck.” We spent this New Year’s with my parents for the first time in many years. As we ate our traditional piece [...]

Deck the halls…and everything else!

by Jacquie D'Alessandro

This isn’t only the season for decorating the house, ’tis the season of holiday parties which means decorating yourself as well. So toward that end, I bought a new pair of holiday shoes! Please say hello to my Vince Camuto black sequined holiday booties! Even though they fall under the category of “killer heels” they’re really comfortable. [...]

Who Knew??

by Jacquie D'Alessandro

You know that saying, “you learn something new every day?” Well, I’ve learned a couple of things lately and thought I’d share my newfound knowledge with the Whiners. My first new item of knowledge concerns aluminum foil. And plastic wrap. And wax paper. Basically anything on a roll that comes in one of those long, rectangular boxes where you tear off the [...]

Friday book day–Holiday reads!

by Jacquie D'Alessandro

My favorite holiday gifts–to both give and receive–are books. On the one hand I hope no one in my family is reading this blog because if they are, they’re gonna know they’re getting a book for Christmas. On the other hand, in case they are reading this, I’ll just throw it out there that I’d [...]

Pasta Party!

by Jacquie D'Alessandro

We have a rule at Casa D’Alessandro–you get to pick what meal you want for your birthday dinner, be it an at-home feast, or an evening out at a favorite restaurant. Yesterday was my DH’s birthday. When I asked him what he’d like to do to celebrate, he said he wanted a homemade pasta dinner. Sounded [...]

My Latest Toys

by Jacquie D'Alessandro

My latest toys all revolve around…pasta! One of our favorite days spent in Italy in June was the cooking lesson we took in Rome where we learned to make homemade pasta. Since then, we’ve made cavatelli numerous times–it’s an easy pasta to make because you don’t need a pasta machine. But of course we wanted [...]

STORM CHECK-IN

by Jacquie D'Alessandro

Given that all the news is about hurricane Sandy, in lieu of a regular blog post, let’s do a storm check-in. Is everyone safe? Did anyone have to evacuate? Any family members who needed to? My in-laws live on Long Island and their power went out around 8pm last night, but the complex where they [...]

Pumpkins and Witches and Ghosts, Oh My!

by Jacquie D'Alessandro

It used to be that the biggest household holiday decorating took place in December, but nowadays it seems that Halloween is also a major decorating event. You know the Christmas villages with the light-up buildings and those huge blow-up lawn figurines? Well, they have them for Halloween, too. Everywhere I look houses are decorated with fake spider webs, [...]

TEA TIME, CHEERIO!

In honor of Whiners Dee and Julia being in jolly old England, I thought I’d share my recent adventures at a local tea house! Four times a year the ladies in my neighborhood get together for our quarterly Ladies Lunch. It’s always a good time, but last week’s luncheon was especially fun. It was held [...]

When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that’s amore! I’m back to blogging about our Italy vacation this summer–the 12-day trip we took for our son’s college graduation. So far I’ve blogged about our adventures in Venice and Florence. Today is all about Naples, or Napoli as it’s called in Italia. [...]

In case you’re just joining us, I’ve been sharing our adventures in Italy during the trip we took earlier this summer for our son’s college graduation. After three fabulous nights in Venice, we took the train to Florence. Both the DH and I had been before, many years ago, but neither of us had been [...]

Cardboard Boat Regatta!

by Jacquie D'Alessandro

There’s always something fun going on in my neighborhood! Our latest adventure was a new-to-me activity–a cardboard boat regatta. A group of men got together and made this AMAZING boat out of nothing but cardboard (per the rules you can also use duct tape and putty to secure the seams and paint–but that’s it).   [...]
