Weekend Reading: Georgette Heyer

by Sherri Browning Erwin on March 1, 2013

Is there anything better than having to read for work? My editor recently recommended I pick up some Georgette Heyer. Specifically, The Foundling and The Talisman Ring. Ms. Heyer is something of a legend in the romance community, but I’d never read her until last week. I’m enjoying her writing.

The Foundling:

The Talisman Ring:

Neither Sir Tristram Shield nor Eustacie, his young French cousin, share the slightest inclination to marry one another. Yet it is Lord Lavenham’s dying wish. For there is no one else to provide for the old man’s granddaughter while Ludovic, his heir, remains a fugitive from justice.

Have you ever read Heyer? What are you reading now?

Heyer is my favorite author, and I have at least one copy of each of her novels, even the ones that aren’t so good. The Talisman Ring is in my top 10 favorites of hers. You are going to have so much fun discovering Heyer for the first time!!

The Talisman Ring is my favorite – I believe it’s Heyer’s first published novel. I think it’s HILARIOUS! I also recommend her False Colours and Sylvester, the Wicked Uncle. Cotillion is another favorite, mainly because of the beta hero, Freddy. Lots of fun!

Rebe, Cotillion is my absolute favorite as well. Freddy is so wonderful! Actually The Talisman Ring was about her 16th novel; The Black Moth was her first.

There’s something about the writing that reminds me of Nancy Drew books. I wonder if Jacquie has read Heyer?

It’s been a while for Heyer reading for me… But I certainly remember enjoying them immensely… worth reading for anyone and re-reading for those who have.

Have definitely read her books in the past, but not in years. Might have to check her out again!
