Pumpkin?

by Sherri Browning Erwin on October 5, 2012

It’s fall! Leaves are turning, dropping, and the pumpkin craze is on.

I had a delicious pumpkin ale the other night. I started my day with pumpkin coffee and a pumpkin Eggo waffle. I have pumpkin spice bagels, too. I’ve seen pumpkin doughnuts, cakes, pies, and ice cream at the store. Do you love it, or enough’s enough? Do you even like pumpkin? What’s your favorite thing with pumpkin this time of year?

I love, love, love pumpkin pie. Pumpkin ale sounds worth a try, but I’m on the edge.

But pumpkin pie? I could live on that stuff!

I found a recipe for a low carb pumpkin pie that I can’t wait to try for Thanksgiving.

I don’t like pumpkin at all… That said I love what it heralds. FALL! Love love love fall. Football (and these days baseball), cooler weather, colorful leaves, spicy smells (including pumpkin). Do still want to try the apple cider doughnuts you mentioned once though. Checked our Duncan Doughnuts and they didn’t have them :( (Probably have pumpkin)

Oh yeah, apple cider doughnuts are incredible. Not a big thing at Dunkin, but at apple places and bake shops all over our area. Not sure where one would find them in NYC.

I haven’t seen them much yet this year, but I’m in avoidance mode. If I bought a pack (they usually come in a half-dozen or more), I wouldn’t stop at one. Eat all the doughnuts mentality takes over. Not good.

I am, as I’m typing this, enjoying a cup of pumpkin spice coffee courtesy of my Keurig. I love the taste of pumpkin, especially warm pumpkin bread with a thick schmear of frosting. Yum! I also like pumpkin decorations around the house this time of year. I don’t like any “scary” fall decor like witches or goblins. For me, pumpkins are the way to go.

I love my pumpkin coffee! But I have to say the pumpkin ale was really good, unexpectedly sweet and spicy but appropriate for ale. Well-balanced. Decorating with pumpkins and leaves is always fun. We never decorate for Halloween but we do for Thanksgiving, slightly.

we have a brand of cider here called Brothers…you might be able to find it over there. They have a Toffee Apple flavour that is out of this world.

We decorate for Thanksgiving slightly as well… although this year we’re traveling so probably will leave that to my Mom.

But that will be festive and fun!

I must admit to missing all the lovely pumpkin yummies. My favourite was at Einstein Brothers, getting the pumpkin blueberry bagel with pumpkin cream cheese and the cinnamon coffee. It just was really nice. I love pumpkin pie spice. I used to use it on ham when it baked and mix a bit with butter and a teeny bit of sugar to spread on toast.

I thought of your lack of pumpkin when writing this, Ti. I’m sorry you’re missing out.

That is ok chicky! It is the price I pay, miss out on grape jam and pumpkin pie spice in exchange for real castles and English accents.

It’s a good trade.
