The joys of pigging out …

by Julie Kenner/J.K. Beck/J. Kenner on October 1, 2012

Sometimes, ya just gotta go for it.

That saying can apply to a lot of things, but this weekend it applied to food. Yup, for my birthday, I totally pigged out. And man, was it good!

We originally had dinner plans on my actual birthday (Saturday) but at the last minute I told the family I’d rather do a Sunday brunch because, hey, I love Sunday brunch and it’s been years since we’ve been to the brunch at the Four Seasons, which is operated by Trio Restaurant (they have a Facebook page – check out some of the pictures!)

So off we went Sunday morning … and returned home Sunday afternoon despite our food comas!

Why brunch?

Because you can eat a bit of everything! I had prime rib and green beans and gluten free chocolate chip pancakes and bacon and sushi and crab legs and shrimp and cheese and salad and berries (all varieties) and creme brulee and mimosas (many, many mimosas) and coffee and … oh, man, I don’t know what else (oh! Ceviche!) and I’m sure there was more.

It. Was. Fabulous.

And less expensive than our originally scheduled dinner. Can’t beat that with a stick!

Oh…and I had some Grouper. Here’s a picture from their facebook page of a Grouper. I had no idea they were so huge! That, my friends, is one ugly–and big–fish!

All in all a lovely Sunday brunch! Now I just need to run a marathon so all that food doesn’t settle on my a** um, my thighs …

What did you do this past weekend??

Happy birthday, Julie! Your brunch sounds wonderful! I love Sunday brunch for exactly the reasons you said–a little bit of this, a little bit of that. YUM! I had no idea that grouper was such a huge fish! So glad you had such a special day! xox

I saw one once at an aquarium (probably with Julie because we both like to go to Aquariums) and they are enormous! Kind of amazing actually how big some fish can get.

When I lived in the Keys, I used to catch all kinds of big fish. Grouper is good eating no matter the size.

NOLA maybe?

maybe….

Oh, wait. I think it was. When we went with Kathleen and Julia, didn’t we go to the new-ish aquarium????

I doubt it was the first trip when I was pregnant. Nobody let me walk that much that trip!!!

Went to the Met to see the Andy Warhol exhibit. Did some window shopping. Cooked Moroccan food and then on Sunday planted some chrysanthemums on the balcony and managed to throw out my back. So have been in bed with the hot pad ever since. Getting older is not fun… (and glad you had a fab birthday brunch! I like brunch too!)

Best advice is do not do ANYTHING involving the back. Take ibuprofen and alternate heat and ice. Bad back is not nice. Oh and feel better QUICK

Thank you… been resting all day.. so a bit better. But backs are so tricky!

Hugs on your back! Warhol exhibit sounds great!

I need to start making a list of what I want to do in NYC. It’s coming up fast!

Wow that place sounds fab! When I was a kid, and we went on vacation, we usually did a brunch type meal in the middle of the day. Then later on had a very light type dinner or sandwiches back at the hotel. It is almost always the cheaper option.
I read three books this weekend. Terri Brisbin ‘His Enemy’s Daughter,’ Sherrilyn Kenyon ‘Bad Moon Rising,’ and Carol Goodman ‘Incubus.’ I am addicted to the Dark Hunters from Kenyon’s series. I was really surprised by Incubus. It has now made me want to read more. It was originally called ‘The Demon Lover’ under the name Juliet Dark. I am not sure what her real name is but all in all the writing was a bit slow to start but it built up and I could not put it down until I finished it! I read the book in one day.
Now I am reading another Kenyon, ‘No Mercy.’
Can you tell I hit the library?

Terri Brisbin is awesome. And she’s currently in Hawaii! I’ve been following her adventures on FB.

hawaii!!! jealous!!

I hit the library, too. Reading The Woman in Black and then going to move on to Code Name: Verity.

WIB is fabulous. LOVED the movie, and the book is great so far.

How cool that they had gluten free offerings– and pancakes no less! I think brunch sounds awesome. We celebrated my dad’s birthday with burgers and dogs grilled outside while the weather still allows it, and a German chocolate cake, the remains of which are in my kitchen and I am avoiding them, and that little voice in my head that says chocolate cake and pumpkin coffee would go so well together.
