Yesterday, Ti asked a Cheers question in the comments: Rebecca or Diane. I was a Rebecca fan myself, could not stand Diane. But that’s not today’s question. Consider it a bonus question.
Today’s question is:
Classic TV: What’s your favorite classic TV show? If you consider a current show a classic one, I suppose you could answer with a current show. But I’m thinking of all the great shows through time. I Love Lucy, Laugh-In, Cheers, Seinfeld, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, Brady Bunch, Partridge Family, M*A*S*H, and etc. Which would you choose as your absolute favorite?

Love so many of the ones mentioned here, but if I had to choose just one, it would be I Love Lucy.
It’s funny that you can guess ages by what shows people consider classic. When I was a kid I watched Rawhide, Bonanza, Carol Burnett, The Rebel, Bewitched, Mary Tyler Moore, Dick Van Dyke and Star Trek too. My brother loved Lost in Space. I spent way too much time in front of the tv then. And one of my favorite things to do was watch the afternoon Dialing for Dollars movie.
Old movies, another great topic.
Was Dialing for Dollars nationwide? I remember seeing the show as a kid when I lived in Northern California. The host was a local guy, so that’s why I always assumed it was a local show. Maybe not?
I watched Dialing for Dollars on channel 2 KTVU out of San Francisco/Oakland. OMG, the host of DFD also hosted a kid’s show with a puppet named Humphrey Hambone. And now I can’t remember his name. LOL
-wipes tear- I love when I am an inspiration!
Where do I begin? I was a HUGE fan of Nick-At-Night. Golden Girls. Empty Nest. Cheers. Roseanne. Night Court.
I grew up with Star Trek. Though I prefer Next Generation. I also liked Buffy, Angel, Highlander, Will and Grace (watching it now!!), Friends, 3rd Rock from the Sun, ER, Home Improvement, Magnum PI, 21 Jump Street, ALF, Dear John, Family Ties, Little House on the Prairie, and Silver Spoons.
And as a kid, Captain Kangaroo, Land of The Lost, Banana Splits, Seigmund the Sea Monster, Krofft Superstars, Pink Panther, Josie and the Pusscats, Shazam, DynoMutt Dog Wonder, Fraggle Rock, and I could go on but now my kid thinks I have lost my mind making her listen to Fraggle Rock opening theme tune.
Oh my gosh, Ti! You’ve named so many old favorites! Highlander! Buffy! Sigmund and the Sea Monsters. Oh, and PufnStuf. And Fraggle Rock, completely awesome. And every one you’ve listed. Such gems.
Oh good grief, how could I forget to mention Magnum PI and Highlander. LOL ALF was tons of fun. I still have a stuffed animal version of him. The Banana Splits! Loved them. I always wanted the elephant to say something. Though I didn’t watch it when it was new, I’ve been enjoying old eps of Perry Mason. Gosh, this is a fun topic!
CSI, CSI NY and CSI Miami, NCIS. Oh yeah. We do watch a lot of it here. And Judge Judy. Because I cannot see People’s Court. Which I do miss. Oh and we do watch Cheaters. Lots of American shows here.
I do have some old Brit shows I loved. Flambards, Chef, Monty Python, Black Adder, To The Manor Born and Good Neighbours.
I watch some reality TV, but all these great shows through the years are making me regret that we even have unscripted options.
Many years ago, my sister called me to say a woman we knew was on People’s Court. It would have been fun to watch had the reason she was there not so tragic. A neighbor’s big dog killed her little dog as she was walking it. She won the case, but obviously that wasn’t what she really cared about it. That’s the only time I’ve ever known someone on a reality show.
I’ve always wondered what would convince people to give up on real court to go People’s Court. Maybe showing that your neighbor is a careless jerk with a mean dog is enough incentive. Poor woman, and poor little dog.
As I recall, the people who were on the People’s Court had no idea that when they filed their complaints that they might be chosen to be on the show. It was supposedly random. Not sure if that’s true, but the judge on that show never gave me the impression he wasn’t genuine. The only other reality show I watch is Deadliest Catch. I love crab. LOL
I checked the IMDB, but there’s no mention of Larry Stork being in the show. That doesn’t mean he wasn’t – IMDB is often wrong.
I loved Bewitched and Jeannie. In fact, when I was in elementary school, my mom had a Jeannie outfit made for me. All my friends wanted to borrow it. I still have it. Maybe someday my granddaughter will wear it.
I think Bewitched remains a favorite of mine. Elizabeth Montgomery as Samantha was awesome, and I really wanted to twitch my nose and make magic happen. I still wish I could. Sometimes, I think I have. But probably more in the cousin Sabrina way. Or Aunt Agatha way. Aunt Agatha inspired a character in my latest WIP actually. And when I watched as a kid, I had no idea there were two different Darrens. They totally fooled me.
I don’t remember an Aunt Agatha on Bewitched. I recall Aunt Clara as the bumbling and loveable witch who collected doorknobs. And Serena was always a hoot. I liked both Darrens, but the first one really had a style about him. My favorite character was Endora. She reminds me of a couple cats I’ve known over the years – all persnickity. LOL
Oh that’s funny! Maybe I renamed her Agatha after all these years. Endora was the best, yes.
Quantum Leap… Frazier.. Star Trek… old NCIS which is pretty much why I don’t see much ‘commercial’ tv… I’m usually on the Cloo, TVLand, those places..
Quantum Leap was a fabulous show. And “Tossed Salad and Scrambled Eggs…” Love that show too. I glommed the entire umpty-umpteen seasons of NCIS this spring. Fabulous show. And the new season kick-off was still great!
Quantum Leap was great TV! Loved that show. And Friends. I can’t forget Friends. My kids watch it now and then and laugh, so it is holding up so far. I thought it might be too 90s for them.
just rewatched most of friends. Awesome.
I prefer the earlier eps of Lost In Space too. It’s hard to choose a favorite show, but if I have to choose then it would the The Dick Van Dyke Show. The writing and characters blended so well together. Of course, I also love The Mary Tyler Moore Show, I Love Lucy, Frasier. Those are among my favorite comedy shows.
My favorite non-comedy shows were The High Chaparral, The Avengers, The Bionic Woman, and (of course) Star Trek.
As I said, it’s hard to choose just one show.
I totally loved Dick Van Dyke… “Oh Rob…” And High Chaparral and the Avengers and Bionic Woman and I was just thinking about Star Trek… great minds… OH how about The Wild West. Loved that show too.
The Dick Van Dyke show, great one. And Bionic Woman/Six Million Dollar Man and Charlie’s Angels inspired much playground activity in my youth. Can’t forget that bionic sound effect and the slow-mo action.
The heroine in my first book was based on The Bionic Woman. Not that my heroine had superhuman strength, but rather she’s a secret agent like Jaime was. I also liked the shows Honey West and The Man From Uncle. I’m a spy at heart.
The Wild, Wild West was fun, but as I didn’t care for its star, I didn’t watch too often. I did like Artimis (sp?) though.
Your next topic should ask our favorite cartoons. Now there’s a long list for me. I still watch Buggs Bunny!
Artemis Gordon was my fav too!
Oh, yeah, Wild West, great show. Loved his disguises.
Lost in Space. Definitely. But the first two seasons… after that it became too campy. (But there are a million great shows out there. And I could fill the screen if I listed all that I loved….)
I don’t remember ever watching a full episode of Lost in Space! But good answer. And I didn’t even mention any of the fantastic westerns, like Bonanza or Wagon Train. One of my college professors had been a star of Wagon Train. Wild.
The Rifleman (Chuck Connors) that was also a favorite of mine. Burke’s Law was another (but it was actually my mom’s favorite). What about “It’s about Time, It’s about Space…” What was that show called?
Dee, it was called It’s About Time. All I remember is the one guy saying “Oooh, oooh” all the time.
Chuck Connors – yum.
I just remember the silly song. But Larry Stork? was in it right? From F-Troop fame?
Larry Storch
