Let’s say you won a free trip (you didn’t, not from us, we’re just asking) to anywhere in the world. Anywhere. Where would you go right now?
This question motivated by Dee and Julia’s recent travels. Dee sent me this picture yesterday:
It’s the Disney Store in Bath! She knows I love Disney. And of course, I wish I were in Bath with Dee and Julia. I love my friends dearly and I welcome any chance to spend time with them anywhere.
Today is Kathleen Givens’s birthday, and I think of her often and what I wouldn’t do to say “I love you, man” one more time. She really loved to travel. To all my friends, I love you, man. In case I don’t say it often enough. Group hug!

My favorite place is Myrtle Beach, SC. But, I would love to have at least a month in Scotland, especially the Highlands.
We would have to do both, Karen. I’ll make exceptions. Since it’s all hypothetical anyway.
Dee and I have done plenty of toasting to everyone, trust me
. Today is kathleen’s birthday, and now it is my grand niece’s birthday. She was born last year and I will always remember Kathleen’s birthday because of it. Do you think that was some subtle nudging from above?
A toast to Kathleen and to you and to all the Whiners!!!!!!
Cheers!
I would love to go to Figi… and stay in the huts over the water!
Yes, that would be amazing.
Hmmm. Does a trip around the world count? My favorite vacation ever was the 7 weeks I spent backpacking around Europe. I’m more of a hotel w/ family girl now, but winning a trip around the world would be waaaaaaaay cool!
Only if you do it Jules Verne/Phileas Fogg style and steampunk it up. I want to see some zeppelins and hot air balloons when you blog about it.
I love you, man! And Happy Birthday to Kathleen. I know she’s watching us from Heaven, wishing she was here. We wish that, too, Kath.
Hmmmm…a trip anywhere. That’s a tough one. There’s so many places I want to go, but since this is a trip I would WIN (and therefore not have to pay for), I’m going to pick something in the Tahiti, Fiji, Australia, New Zealand neck of the woods. I looked at the airfare to Australia a couple weeks ago and it was $3,000 per person. That’s 6 grand for the DH and I just to get there! That’s a lotta moolah before you even add in the cost of hotels, food, tours, entertainment. So I’d pick one of those. If I actually win, I’ll take the time to narrow the choice down to one of those.
My lucky son went to Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji because his parents sent him on a grand adventure. Without us. What were we thinking? He wanted to live in Australia for the longest time after that and I feared he would end up a world away from me. I think he has abandoned that plan. Finally. But he loved it over there.
Wow. If I won a anywhere in the world kind of prize, I would have a hard time choosing. See I miss my family and would want to go to Florida to see them. But then this is a once in a lifetime go anywhere kind of thing so I would have to do something I have always wanted to do. And there are several choices there. I have always wanted to go to New Zealand and see some of the places they filmed Lord of the Rings which may sound nerdy but if you ever watch the movies, I mean REALLY watch the movies, and see the backdrops, you would agree with me.
I am also really into Roman and Greek history and would love a tour of some of the ancient monuments there but then when you say ancient it also brings up my love of Egyptology so maybe I should say I would want to see those places as well.
My one enduring top of the bucket list that is left (after seeing England and Scotland) was a bit of a strange one. I want to walk on a glacier. I am sure that it can be done in NZ. But I want to do one in Europe. I guess you can blame Jean Auel for that!
Dude!!! I love you guys! Hence why I am always back to whine and gripe, laugh and cry with ya.
-big ole bewbie squishin hugs-
We love you, too, Ti. Thanks for hanging out with us.
Right now, I would go to London. Next week, maybe somewhere else. Jacquie’s Italy was tempting. Limoncello! But right now, London.
See, I love the history of London and I hate how crowded it is.
But I would take a side trip so you could show me your favorite pub.
Dude. There are so many!!! And not a one is in London. I can name 4 near by (well…kinda near by) that is well worth the trip to England. One has a haunted mini galleon that everyone that tries to clean it ends up dead. One is haunted by the ghost of a little medieval girl. One is on top of a mountain over looking a deep valley and looking at the top of another mountain where there was a iron age fort and one has got the coolest cellar in the world (they went to expand the cellar and found a Roman bath house!)
We could do the Whine Sisters pub tour of England. And you would be our guide, Ti. Oh yes, that’s a definite for the future.
I’m in!!
Wait until my husband sees this. He is the Pub Tour expert! Ask my Aunt Kathy. If you want directions to anywhere, ask my husband. He will tell you how to get anywhere by pub names.
‘Go down the road until you see this pub, make a right head about 20 minutes on the road until you come to this village. You will see this pub. Take the 4th left after that. You will see this pub. Two streets on the right and you are there.’
Oh and the hints were Haunted Galleon is in Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem in Nottingham in the caves under the castle; The ghost is in The Archangel Gabriel Salutes the Virgin Mary Inn or as we locals call it Ye Olde Salution or the Sal located near the Trip; The Mtn one is in Monsal Dale; and the Roman one is located under a pub in the city of York.
Awesome! He’s invited, of course. We must see them all!
He drives here. I don’t. But the two in Notts are a 10 minute train ride. We do have an awesome train and bus system.
