It was a fun weekend at Casa D’Alessandro. We headed to Athens (Athens, Georgia–not Athens, Greece) to go do some shopping, see a movie, and go to dinner. First stop–Sam’s club. I know I’ve blogged before about my love affair with Costco, but I also love Sam’s. This time out–in addition to our usual purchases of paper towels and fruit–we picked up some chef’s knives (’cause I’m always looking for the perfect kitchen knife), and a new Ninja (combination food processor and blender). Can’t wait to try it out! Frozen margarita, anyone?
Then we headed to the movies to see The Amazing Spiderman. I’d heard good things about the flick and we really enjoyed it. The actor who played Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) was new to me and he did a great job. The adorable Emma Stone played Gwen Stacy, who was Peter Parker’s first love. Who knew? I always thought it was Mary Jane Watson, but apparently not. There was lots of action and lots of chemistry between the leads. I’m looking forward to the next installment.
Then we went to dinner at a new-to-us restaurant called Grit–which doesn’t necessarily sound appetizing, but the food was excellent. It’s an all vetegarian place and I have to say I never knew tofu could taste so good. After dinner we went to Menchies which is a frozen yogurt place. There are about 12 flavors to choose from and dozens of toppings and it’s make your own. The Mounds flavor was amazing–chocolate coconut. YUM! I swear, if there was a Menchies closer to us I’d be in there every day. I’d for sure end up in Menchies rehab.
The rest of the weekend was spend working. I’m editing/updating one of my early, out-of-print titles, KISS THE COOK in preparation of making it available as an e-book. I have a fabulous new cover for it and I can’t wait to re-release it next month!
How did you spend your weekend? Have you seen Spiderman? Plan to? Whatever you did, I hope it was fun!

We got together with chums from our former high school, ate pizzas, salads and pecan pie. All was delicious and everyone talked theirselves almost hoarse. We had a wonderful high school and it is such fun getting together. Hubby was head cheerleader and there were two others present who were cheerleaders with him. We are already setting the date to get together once again. So many wonderful memories!
That sounds like a fabulous time, Gladys! Glad you had so much fun!
I spent my weekend watching the router croak. Luckily hubby found a new one in his boxes of goodies. Tonight I am going to start my new job. 12 hour over night shifts. I am not happy.
Have not seen the new Spiderman.
Last movie we went to was the last Harry Potter.
Yeah. Been awhile.
Oh dear, Ti. I hope it goes well. I haven’t seen Spiderman yet either, maybe soon.
Good luck with the job,Ti! Sorry about the icky hours
I am telling you ladies now, it does not pay enough. I am SO looking for something else.
We just drove in from vacation, and sadly, the worst part of vacation is the post-vacation-mad-dash-get-the-laundry-done-the-frig-stocked-the-mail-sorted-the-plants-watered-suitcases-unpacked fallout. I am nearly back to pre-vacation sanity, but not quite yet…
And the weekend at Chez D’Alessandro sounds like a lot of fun! Can’t wait to see SpiderMan.
Yeah, you always need a week to recover from vacation. Glad you got home safely!
Working (book due this week). But I did run 12 miles with my running group. That’s right. 12 miles. I have the stumps for feet to prove it
You are AMAZING! Good for you, Julia. And good luck on finishing the book xox.
I loved Kiss the Cook!!! Can’t wait for the re-release! Also love frozen yogurt — particularly the plain kind with coconut and almonds added. YUM! This weekend we went to a Yankees games (vs. Angels). And then headed for Union Square to a restaurant that was supposed to have good fried clams. They were serving brunch only and apparently only that half-heartedly. We left after half an hour and no service. But wound up at a fav California Mexican place. Then I worked in the “garden” repotting some geraniums. Yesterday was a quiet day but nice to just relax.
I totally envy you going to see the Yankees! I was shocked to hear that my favorite player, Andy Pettitte broke his leg! What the heck?
It’s funny you should mention a restaurant in Union Square. We watched a show last night on Food Network hosted by Anne Burrell where she has to find an executive chef for a restaurant. It’s sort of like Chopped, where 4 chefs compete for the job. The resaturant happened to be Olives in Union Square, owned by Todd English! Have you ever eaten there?
I haven’t. Although I’ve seen it. Maybe we’ll give it a try. We watched some Chopped this weekend. Should have warned people too that the bad restaurant was Little Tavern. Boo hiss. And I still didn’t get any clam strips.
Clam strips? Oh my no. You want the whole clams with the bellies.
Let’s go to Maine!
Chopped is doing a grill off! Ted Allen and the judges in cowboy gear–I can’t wait to see it!
Oh, yes, let’s go to Maine! My neighbors are there now, taking a week-long lobster cruise. Seven days of lobster–sounds like heaven to me!
How did I spend my weekend? Hosting a houseful of 17-21 year olds attending Connecticon (Our Connecticut version of Comic Con). My dad moved to my sister’s for the weekend so that we had room to put up four extra kids. It was fun! I got to see their costumes. Though, you really don’t live for seeing your nineteen year old daughter in a short skirt dressed as a twelve-year-old character. But she’s my girl, so she pulled it off with appropriate innocence and not a hint of hoochie (or she might not have made it past mom). I’m not even cool geek enough to know what character she was. They kids were up and out early and stayed late, so mostly, husband and I had the house to ourselves for a change (bliss!).
That sounds like a lot of fun, Sherri! Two weekends ago our son’s two roommates came to visit and we had a great time having all the “young folk” in the house. And the conference sounds terrific! I keep reading stories about Comic Con and all the celebs there. Also terrific–your quiet time with the hubster!
I had a nice weekend.. My aunt and her grandson came out for dinner on Saturday night…. It is so rare these days that I have company for dinner and I like to do things up nice, especially my dinner table.. everything has to be just right… I used these new charger plates instead of place mats, but I didn’t like that consept, so won’t be doing that again. I am looking for new palce mats to match my new wall colour, which is a deep wine colour.. Plus a table cloth to match… Sunday, I did a couple loads of laundry and read the the rest of the day.. Then attended The Beach Party Sunday night on Writerspace Chat.. Lots of fun…
I’m still looking for just the right table arrangement. Always fun to try new things.
Love table decorating!
Me, too! I want a bigger dining room table. One that seats twelve would be perfect. Sadly, not in the budget at this time
Ha… I can just imagine trying to fit a table for twelve into this apartment. Six is a stretch!!!
Come to my house! We can do 8 now–plenty of room for you!
The Menchies looks exactly like Peachwave, which just opened in my town. A ten minute drive from me! Addicting, yes. The peanut butter yogurt is awesome, too. My favorite is the pineapple, which I tend to mix with coconut. And the good news? When I plug it into my trusty calorie counter app (you know how much you’re eating because you pay by weight) it always comes in under 300 calories, which is a great lunch! My daughter and I go together every now and then.
I know, right? That’s my favorite thing about it!
Wait–there’s a calorie counter app? How does it work and where do I get one?
I use Myfitnesspal. You just type in foods or activities and it helps you keep track. Also, tells you how many calories you need to stay under to lose a pound, specifically for your body and activity level.
Awesome! Thanks, Sherri–I’m off to download it!
This weekend I painted my daughter’s bedroom with her choice of colors. Think lightening bug green and cantalope. It’s so her.
Sounds so cute!
I think that sounds adorable!
