Summer Cocktails

by Dee Davis on July 10, 2012

Summer is the perfect time to put away the wine glasses and go for a libation that’s a little more fun!  Here are a couple of favorites!!

Lemon Drop Martini

6 oz Vodka

2 oz Cointreau

2 oz Fresh Lemon Juice

2 cups ice

Mix ingredients and shake. Strain and pour.

Serves two!

Sea Breeze

4 oz Vodka

6 oz Cranberry Juice

4 oz grapefruit juice (fresh is best)

Pour over ice into highball glass.

Serves two!

Robert’s Margaritas

2 oz Silver tequila

2 oz fresh lime juice

1 1/3 oz Cointreau (or triple sec-but Cointreau is better)

Shake with ice and strain or pour over ice.

Serves two!

And if you’re not feeling as adventurous, there’s always a pitcher of homemade lemonade or iced tea.  Summertime at its very best.

So what are your favorite summertime drinks?

Currently lounging at the Polynesian and tonight I spotted… THE CUUUUUBBBBBEEEE…… my kids did not understand the squeals of delight.

I have very little cocktail repetoire. Sadly, (or happily) wine is pretty much my cocktail of choice. :)

Can I get a pitcher of each of those? At my desk? And can it be served by a dreamy pool boy who doesn’t speak a lick of English? I’d really look forward to going to the office with these enhancements.

Does he do hot tubs? I need a hot tub boy. Hm, that sounds sketchy. I need someone to bring me summer cocktails when I am in my tub. Better?

Oh, those sound fabulous!!!!

My favorite drink (back when we had a pool) was to mix Diet Sprite with a very fruity Reisling.

But I’ve given up soda pop. And I no longer have a pool.

Hmmm. Now I’m bummed…..

In Austria, they often mix their wine with seltzer water. Again I like it straight up much better. But then I don’t put sugar in my tea either. So I’m a purest I guess!

My mummy in laws favorite is a bitter shandy which is half a glass of bitter (dark strong beer) and half what they call lemonaid and you call sprite.
I also love Sangria but it leaves me with the headache from down under.
When in the Keys I hooked hubby on Mai Tai’s.
Personally I like The Amaretto made from their butter cookies, I cannot think of the name of it (Is it Di’Saronna?) but they make their own Amaretto cookies and this liquor is made from the crushed cookies, in a bit of no caffiene coke with crushed ice.
I also really like apple blueberry J2O (a fruit juice in bottles here) with Malibu (coconut rum). It sounds like a strange combo but it is nice.

I love bitter… but am not a fan when you mix it with other stuff. Just give me a good pub and a pint and I’m happy!

Mmm summer cocktails! I love margaritas, and Sea Breezes. I usually just opt for a nice crisp white wine. But sometimes, rarely, I’ll have a Corona. And then there are times you need something big and fruity with an umbrella.

I do enjoy a Corona (which just got bought by Budweiser) in the summertime. And Negro Mondelo (also just bought by Bud–same Mexican company). Not so much with the white wine. Dedicated red drinker here. Although on a hot evening a nice white wine can be refreshing.

Sangria. I end up in a catch-22 with my inner wine snob. Is it good wine? Then why is it Sangria, what a tragedy! Is it mediocre wine? Wait, why am I drinking mediocre wine? This would be so much better with good wine. But why make Sangria out of perfectly good wine? Vicious circle. Shut up and drink your Sangria, Erwin.

I can’t drink Sangria. Just don’t like it. Which is funny because in the winter I loved mulled wine (although I do make it out of moderate not good wine).

Those look really good, Dee! My favorite summer drink is icy cold prosecco. Salud!
