Since Sherri’s blog yesterday started off our week with a smile, I thought I’d keep the trend going and add to my recent “Favorites” theme–since things we love bring smiles. This week let’s talk about foods.
It’s almost impossible for me keep a list of my favorite foods down to a minimum because I pretty much love everything. In fact, there’s only one food I really don’t like: Brussell sprouts. Figures that the one thing I don’t care to eat has like zero calories! But other than Brussell sprouts…I’m in. Yet how to narrow down my choices to just a few favorites? Ooooh, the dilemna! But after much thought, here’s my list of my top three favorite foods:
In third place–shrimp scampi. I love shrimp, I love garlic, I love butter. Put them all together and you can’t miss. Toss the scampi over pasta and I’m in heaven.
In second place–lobster. And I mean the whole lobster–not just the tail. I don’t cook lobsters very often–they’re very pricey where I live–but it’s always a feast when we indulge.
And claiming the number one spot on my list of favorite foods: linguini and clam sauce.
I swear I could eat this for dinner every night. I love the delicate flavor of fresh clams, and combined with the garlic and olive oil, parsley and hint of lemon…mama mia. When we lived near Costco I would pick up a bag of fresh clams every Friday at their seafood roadshow and make linguini and clam sauce. I can still get clams where we live now, but they’re much more expensive. I miss my Costco!
So how about you? What are your top three favorite foods? Do you make them yourself or prefer to eat them at a restaurant? Hope your week is off to a good start!

1. Anything with guacamole involved.
2. Warm chocolate chip cookies.
3. A huge soft pretzel covered in crab dip from a local place. I developed a shellfish allergy, and this has been the saddest part for me. I’ve contemplated taking my epi pen and going for it anyway, but my husband never lets me. He’s so mean to me!
Oh, JUST three foods? Very tough. Top 3 are probably steak, there’s a pasta sauce I make with tomatoes, cream, and spinach that I love, and then there’s Chuy’s Chimichanga with deluxe tomatillo sauce.
Although shrimp scampi is high on my list as well. I can tell you grew up near good seafood. It makes a big difference. Shrimp from the Gulf of Mexico just doesn’t hit it.
I pretty much love anything that involves cream and spinach.
Darn it, Kathleen, now I’m hungry again! LOL!
Pizza with mushrooms, white cake with white buttercream frosting and a rare petite filet mignon. Mmmm….
Oooh, sounds great! When should we be over??
I’ll skip the mushrooms, but sign me up for the rest!
Cake! Oh, I didn’t think of cake but yes, caaaake!
I have no idea what a cassoulet is. Sherri–fill us in. And if you’ll share one of your simple Brussell sprout recipes, I’ll give it a try. Who knows–maybe I’d like them. But hey–then I’d like EVERYTHING! I have to have ONE thing that I don’t like to eat!
I do love brussel sprouts. We “grill” them in the iron skillet. Half them, coat in olive oil and grill cut side down (covered) until tender. DELICIOUS!
Well, it doesn’t get much easier than that. Okay–next time I go to Publix I’m going to get some and give it a try. I’ll let y’all know how it goes.
I shred them, cut off the bottoms and slice each one about three times (halved if they’re tiny). Then saute them in a stick of butter (olive oil if you’re being good, butter if you really want to like them), season them with salt, pepper, and a hint of cayenne, then drizzle with fresh lemon juice.
Cassoulet is a very labor-intensive provincial French meal involving duck fat, duck confit, sausage, and white beans. It doesn’t sound nearly as rich and delicious as it is. There are many variations (probably as many as old French chefs and housewives) but it’s usually a two-three day process to make.
I can’t recall the last time I was in a French restaurant, but next time I go, I’m looking for the cassoulet.
Ah my top three foods.. now that is impossible.. BUt I will say that I would eat mushrooms with just about anything. I often saute’ them with some nice crisp green beans, and a bit of butter and EVOO…and through in some red peppers.. and serve with what ever meat or chicken I have roasted.. mmm making my mouth water just thinking about it..
I love mushrooms, too. I wish they sold a wider variety of them where I live. Every once in a while I get to Trader Joe’s (an hour drive) and go crazy getting all different kinds.
As I read your top three, I wonder how close to the ocean you are since you are obviously a seafood fan. I am a seefood fan. I see food and love it. I am sitting here, biting the inside of my lip trying to place the top three favourites down and I just cannot do it. Here is my attempt:
#3 It is VERY hard for me to choose so in number three is (depending on my mood and hormonal level) a choice between: Chocolate cake with chocolate butter cream icing or black forest chocolate gateau OR carrot cake with cream cheese icing OR red velvet cake with cream cheese icing. (See? I am having a very hard time choosing)
#2 Cadbury cream eggs. Enough said.
#1 a perfectly cooked steak (sounds simple but it really isn’t!)
As for who prepares the food, it is divine to have someone else MAKE it but for me to eat it at HOME. Though I must admit I can cook what I want how I want when I want…if I want to. Being pampered is always nice though.
I grew up near the ocean, Ti–live about 3 1/2 away now.
All your choices sound fab to me!
Mmmm. Cake. Steak. More seafood. Mmmm.
Pasta. French Toast. Muffaletta. (Okay with the exception of pasta which is truly my favorite, the others are just part of a long list of favorite foods. Basically I love to eat!)
My grandmother’s pound cake!
Since I love pound cake, I’ll add your grandmother’s pound cake to my list, Dee!
It was so amazingly good. She also used to bake a little cake especially for me when she’d bake a big one for a party or something. Always made me feel so special.
Your grandma sounds like an amazing, lovely woman. So…apple doesn’t fall far from the tree! xox
Yumm.. Your top three favorites all sound delicious and made me hungry. I also love seafood. Once a year my husband and I would treat ourselves and order King Crab direct from Alaska. So my first pick would be Alaskan King Crab. Second favorite is shrimp cooked anyway and third is anything with molten gooey cheese.. Yumm..
Shellfish, any shellfish, so good.
I hear ya, Sherri–shellfish all the way for me (obviously, given my top 3, LOL!).
Chris–I LOVE king crab! I think that would have to be my number 4. With melted butter…oh, man! YUM!
Jacquie, seriously? There is not a brownie anywhere near your list!!
Three favorite foods: Brownie. Brownie. Hamburger.
Hahaha, I knew your list would include brownies and burgers.
LOL, Julia–I love that your number 1 AND 2 are brownies!
Hate hamburgers. I think I might be the only one in America. And I can take or leave chocolate. Although of late I’ve been eating a lot of the dark stuff.
I enjoy a nice hamburger every once in a while, but I’d say we only have them about 4 times a year.
Hm, so many good things! How to choose? Jacquie, my one thing I didn’t like (and that’s me with food, I rarely find food I don’t like) was Brussels sprouts, but then I learned a few recipes with fresh sprouts and now I love them. Love! My grandmother always told us that our tastes changed every seven years, so we have to try things again to make sure we still don’t like them. Sometimes, Grandma was right (though technically, maybe not true, I don’t know).
Lobster is at the top of my favorite foods list, and I love it any way it is served. I can cook it at home, but I prefer to get it out at restaurants. Chocolate. Cherries. Mmm, chocolate and cherries together. Throw in some marshmallow and we have a party. I don’t really have a favorite dish because there are so many good things, depending on my mood.
OH! I thought of one dish that I wouldn’t want to live without and I’m craving again– the cassoulet at Gascogne, a restaurant in New York. It was seriously amazing. I had lobster risotto, and I absolutely love lobster (as I just professed) but this cassoulet that my husband ordered was truly to-die-for. One of the best things I have ever eaten.
And suddenly I’m craving waffles. Waffles! I don’t know where it came from but there it is, I can’t stop thinking of fresh waffles with butter and syrup.
Waffle House–baby!
Not just our scents but many things biologically change with us every 7 years. I used to be able to wear any make up and any perfume and now my skin is hyper sensitive to everything. I used to wear any kind of jewelry and now most metals make my skin itch. I can only wear gold pure silver platinum and titanium. Anything else breaks me out in hives!
Aha, maybe Grandma was right.
