Monday Morning Smiles

by Sherri Browning Erwin on June 18, 2012

It’s Monday! We all need to find our happy. Here are some things that make me smile:

1. My grandfather. He’s 94, and still sharp, very funny (corny funny, not sarcastic funny) and such a wonderful man. A true gentleman. I’m so lucky to still have him in my life. We spent Father’s Day at my grandfather’s house with most of my family. Good times.

2. Princess and superhero running outfits made of Under Armour fabric to whisk away sweat and odor! Oh, Julia London, yes please wear these in your next race! From The Princess Runs shop.

3. It has been getting hotter in CT and I end up craving one of these: Disney’s grown-up slushies, the Grey Goose Citron lemon slush and the Grand Marnier Orange slush. Well, you know, anything Disney makes me smile. But these are definitely some of my favorite things. In Epcot’s World Showcase, French pavilion. Walt Disney World has four major parks (Magic Kingdom, Disney Hollywood Studios, Epcot, and Animal Kingdom), and only the Magic Kingdom is dry. Yes, there is a lot for adults to do in Walt Disney World (not all involving alcoholic beverages).

4. Writing! This can make me cry as often as smile, but when I am in the zone and the words come easily and I am creating entire worlds from my imagination… such a great feeling!

5. A good book/a good movie! The right one can take the edge off a bad day, whisk you away to a new time or place, and make you laugh/cry/feel/laugh. I watched Crazy, Stupid Love over again the other night, and I laughed and cried and laughed more. I love that movie. Not just because of Ryan Gosling shirtless, but it doesn’t hurt.

6. Discovering new things about my house/yard/neighborhood. We’ve been here a year now and there’s still so much new to me. Like the new babies in the neighborhood,  a turkey that visits with her eight poults (baby turkeys). And yesterday, I looked out and discovered a skunk with her four kits (baby skunks!) right in the yard, off to the side. My brave husband followed them into the neighbor’s yard to try to get a picture. He didn’t want to get too close! And new things are blooming all the time. I have yellow and pink roses now, and purple flowers all around my mailbox. Husband says they are weeds, but I’m not too sure.

7. My friends. They’re always around when I need a pick-me-up or sound advice, or silliness and smiles. Yay for friends! And especially yay for friends who buy and wear a Wonderwoman suit for running. (Still looking at you, JFL!).

Cheers, Whiners.

What made you smile today?

My kids make me smile. Even during times when I feel there’s nothing else in the world to smile about and I think I’ve forgotten how, those two guys never fail to make me smile. A shirtless Ryan Gosling also makes me smile. :)

Of course two days I specifically mention Julia London on the blog, she is MIA. So… I guess that means we can talk about her more, right?

She’s off running the streets of Texas in her new princess costume. :)

Which Princess? I think maybe Belle? A nice gold number? That would suit her.

Yup, gold would suit her nicely!

Love the idea of the adult slushies. I actually have been eyeing those high-dollar margarita machines only to make fun adult drinks during the summer, but I keep thinking it’s probably not a good idea and could lead to drinking more adult beverages than I actually want to drink.

Yes, I was considering an ice cream maker and someone said I could make frozen margaritas in it– and that is one of the reasons I passed on it. Like I need more excuses to drink, hahaha.

Sherri,

That is no weed. Isn’t it Clymetis? (probably wrong spelling and no, it’s not the STD). I tried to grow one a few years back and it bloomed one year, but died off after that, but they are periennials and a lot of people here plant them around mailboxes.

Clematis, yes I think so! I looked it up after you mentioned it, and it could be a variation of clematis aka the morning star. I like it. And yay, we can determine that it belongs there and it’s not a weed.

My boss scared me today. She came in, gave me a dirty look and said she had a bone to pick with me.
Apparently it is MY fault she did none her weekend housework. See I was telling her about Game of Thrones that I had let one of the residents borrow, and she had never heard of it. I said she could borrow my first season DVD set. Which she did. And, well, she put the first one on thinking it was probably not going to be all THAT good and was INSTANTLY addicted! She cannot WAIT for the next season on DVD so she can watch it. And now she is having to do her weekend housework during the week and it is MY fault. But…at the end of it all, it made me smile. I got my boss addicted to GoT. HAHA
I cannot wait to use my free Disney passes. Long story short, if you complain about your Epcot visit where half the park is closed so they can set up the Halloween and Food and Wine festival stuff, they send you free tickets. Though to be fair, my husband had never gone to Epcot and he was very disappointed with how it turned out. Not sure which park we will use them at but there you go. I cannot wait to try their new alkie slushes. they look lush!
Sherri. A weed is defined as a plant in the wrong place. If you like it, and its pretty, then it is not a weed. Would you believe we have an orchid as a weed??!! We have some tall grass as a feature in the side and there is actually an orchid growing in the middle of it. My husband said its a weed. I said NO NO its pretty leave it! Cool huh??!

Awesome, Ti. So I don’t have any weeds! As long as you don’t go to the Magic Kingdom, you will find yummy alkie slushes– every park has their own versions, with the exception of the MK. But you could always just do a monorail resort pub crawl after your Magic Kingdom visit and all is well. So cool that you got your boss hooked on GoT! :)

Ti, I think you should get a RAISE for boss glomming GOT. It is so excellent!. Will have to remember the free Disney pass thing. I can be a very good complainer when I have ulterior motivation. :)

What made me smile this morning, the Sunshine.. I love to see it streaming in my window in the morning… and I watched Crazy, Stupid Love last week to and it was such a great movie.. I laughed so hard, and yet I shed a few tears too… And seeing Ryan Gosling with no shirt on.. Well that was the icing on the cake..

I love it when Ryan makes me forget I watched him in the Mickey Mouse Club when I was a young mother of two and he was an adolescent. As long as I can forget that, I can enjoy Ryan shirtless.

I KNEW you would love that movie! It’s become one of my favorites. Ryan is great in the role, but I also love Emma Stone and Steve Carrell. Greatness all around!

I really loved that movie too! Was so great. Watched Wives and Daughters this weekend. If you like English period romance–you’ll love this miniseries!

Thank you for the shirtless picture of Ryan Gosling. And the mental picture of Ms. London in the WW outfit.

Like CateS, it’s stinking hot here. Saturday was 106, which we shouldn’t have had until late July. Today’s high is only supposed to be 91 so I’m celebrating!

Too early really for any emotion But I did smile at the thought of JFL wearing a wonder woman outfit in her next run! And my husband is home safely from his biking adventure –where he had a wonderful time. So how is that for an early morning smile — mainly courtesty of you, Ms. Erwin!

Smiling with you! :) I do really, really want Julia to run as Wonder Woman. So awesome! The Snow White outfit might be a little much, but WW, heck yeah!

It’s just a pretty day here — but going to be stinking hot all week.. we’re in a drought which isn’t nice, but there’s still a little water left in our rainbarrels… that’s worth smiling about!

Wish I could send rain. We’re getting more this week.
