I am sitting here trying to think of something fun and engaging to blog about. Should I talk about how crazy the Real Housewives of Any City are? Nah. Should I discuss how HGTV and one small renovation can make a person a little crazy and cash poor? You guys probably could guess that. It occurs to me that the weightiest things on my mind these days are not very weighty. That’s a good thing. For me. Not for a blog
.
So here are a few things I am looking forward to that ought to bring some thoughts back into my head:
1. The Olympics. I am totally psyched for them. The only problem is that I thought they were in June, but they are in July and August, which is cruel if you ask me. I love the summer games. My favorite used to be gymnastics, swimming and diving, but I am looking forward to all the running this time, as I understand a little better what it takes to run 3.1 miles in 12 minutes as they did recently at the Olympic trials.
2. Typing The End of The Desperate Debutante so I can move on to new projects. I am like this with every book. I get tired of them having spent months with them, especially when they won’t wrap themselves up neatly and require me to work. Argh.
3. Travel. It’s getting super hot in Texas (as opposed to hot) and I can’t wait to blow this pop stand for some cooler climes. Starting with a trip to Oklahoma, which will not be cooler, but my dad turned 80 and we are going to celebrate by watching Fox News, turning in at 9, and having some birthday cake.
4. The new brave digital world in publishing. Doors are opening for authors that were not open before, and all of us here are sticking various parts of our feet in. Some toes, some whole feet. The cool thing about it is that we can direct our writing and publishing like never before. The scary thing about it is that it feels like the sink or swim aspect just got a little deeper. Don your floaties, everyone!
5. The end of my renovations. I have finished the kitchen and living area. I am waiting on new furniture to arrive, my new door to be put in, and now…the update of my master bath and master closet. What can I say? You know, as long as they are here, right?
. But living in a mess is no fun.
What things are you looking forward to?

The Olympics for sure. Then there is the return of Dallas.. Then there is the The Queen’s Plate, that’s a big Throughbred Horse Race in Canada, Starts off our Triple Crown of Racing on June 24th.
Then there is the Birthday/Family Bash on July 1st, celebrating our Canada Day Baby.
My annual Gal Pal weekend comes in August.. Now that is the thing that I have never ever missed. I would give up my family for this one, and I am devoted to my family…
Heading to Texas shortly, because you know, that’s my idea of vacation. Texas in July (as opposed to Texas in August!). Actually could be find. I think we’re detouring through FLA (the family is voting on a detour through Chicago or a detour through FLA). I’m voting FLA.
I for one will avoid London like the plague during the Olympics. I am kind of angry with how some of the officials have been. A home with some sweet lil ole ladies is under prosecution because (now get this) they like being busy so they started making pillows, handsewn, with different events on them. All hand embroidered right? It is against Olympic copyright laws! Most of them is a picture of a girl swimming or doing gymnastics. No logos. Just people doing sports. And they have been warned they could be prosecuted! How ABSURD! Ok so much for my rant.
I really do not know what I have to look forward to.
OH! I know!
My daughter is turning 14 this September and I want to book a night for us and one of her friends to stay the night (are you ready for this one??) to stay in a castle! How COOL would that be? But as for right now, I am not sure exactly where. More to come!
Other than that, I just do not know. I guess, despite how wild weird and animal crazy I am…I am a bit boring. La!
The castle stay sounds awesome! Great idea, Ti! And uuuurgh, I am with you on getting steamed over threatening sweet ladies doing harmless needle-crafts. Absurd, and mean. Some people are just mean! I have no idea why they would bother.
Ti ,that sounds awesome!!
As for the ladies and their embroidery, that’s ridiculous. Just absolutely ridiculous. It’s like common sense has taken a hike from our collective
Yes well this is England where we have convicted illegal criminals we cannot deport because it is their HUMAN RIGHT to live in England with their pet cat. I. Kid. You. Not.
Prosecuting little old ladies for sewing pillows???!! The injustice! Was Betsy Ross thrown in jail for crafting the flag? Was Madame La Farge arrested for putting treasonous tidbits in a blanket? I. Think. Not. We as citizens should stand behind the citizens right to CRAFT! Revolt, I say, revolt! Tis tyranny!
I love the castle idea, Ti! You must report back in you jaunt!
Going to be a quiet summer here. But am hoping for a weekend away at some point. I hate the August heat in the city–so will be craving somewhere cooler. Like Lake George, but will probably settle for the Catskills. In the meantime, am also looking forward to starting a new series. But have an A-Tac novella to write first.
The Catskills! You can wear your cut-off jean shorts and Keds and sneak off to dirty dance with the staff and a smokin hot dance instructor! How fun!
No travel plans for my summer. We might make it to the beach for a long weekend. We have some hot and sticky days but generally much milder here than TX summer so no real need to escape. I am looking forward to Summer Olympics, but I don’t love it quite as much as my husband does. I get tired of the swimming and running events, but he wants to watch every second. I see more writing time in my future! Good luck with yours.
Thanks. I need it.
I’m not a summer olympics person, although I LOVE the winter ones. But do enjoy watching a smattering. My dad was a quarter miler–so I always like to check in on the track events.
I’m definitely craving me some #3. Not so much the Fox News and bed at 9, but the travel. With the way my schedule is shaping up, I won’t be able to go anywhere until late in the summer. I need some cool mountain air! (But, hopefully without the fires!)
That’s where I am going to be late summer, VB. In Taos in August. YES. (but hopefully, without the fires.
I would change the channel to MSNBC just to watch the sparks fly. Too bad Rachel Maddow’s show isn’t on just a wee bit earlier in the evening.
I might do it! But then that would spark a political discussion that I DEFINITELY do not want to have
VB am right there with you!
Like you, I’m looking forward to watching the Olympics. We actually attended the Games when they held in Atlanta in 1996, which was totally cool–hope we can attend again some day. I’m also looking forward to some traveling this summer. And spending time on the lake. And being with my DH and son before the kid heads off on his own at summer’s end.
Jacquie, how cool that you got to attend the Olympics. And what a great summer, launching the kidlet into the world.
Ah, launching kidlets into the world… it all seems like a far-off dream but it is really getting closer. My son will take a little longer to launch, but that’s just more time for me to enjoy having him at home (alternately to be read as tear my hair out having him at home- but we’ve been in a good place lately).
I wouldn’t worry, Sherri–from what I’ve heard, they always seem to come home after the launch, LOL!
