Whiner (Weiner) of the Year!

by Sherri Browning Erwin on January 17, 2012

And now what you have all been waiting for… our Whine Person of the Year 2011! But of course, we went for naughty over nice, due to popular demand. Presenting Whiner of the Year 2011, Anthony Weiner.

The one on the right, being sworn into office with his wife at his side.

Or, as you might know him:

Oh, sorry. You mean you don’t want to see it? But he thought women loved penis pictures! What a surprise. In case you need reminding, you can revisit the unfolding of Rep. Weiner’s scandal at Gawker. Typical politician, his first instinct was to deny, deny. “I’ve been hacked!” Yeah, right. The problem was that too many liberal bloggers were ready to believe it, that he was hacked, and started hurling accusations at GOP blogs. Right Wing conspiracy! Oh my.

But the thing that struck me was that while Weiner claimed to have been hacked, he never denied that the pictures (this one above is the least graphic) were indeed of Weiner’s wiener. Hmm.

In my liberal house with my very left-leaning husband, this actually led to an argument, the husband in support of the hacking theory and my (silly me, falling for political tricks) continuing to voice suspicion as to why he would not deny the pictures were of him. He might have been hacked (might), but to me, this still made him a dog. A lowly junkyard dog. Did this mean he had penis pictures floating around? Why did he have penis pictures? And of course, we all know how this one turned out…

I was right (naturally). The man had penis pictures. Not only that, but he sent them to random women (porn star women, not his wife) via Twitter and then claimed that he had been hacked to cover it up… prompting a week long (give or take) discussion here at the Whine Sisters on the ridiculousness of men taking pictures of their penises and assuming women want to see them. HAHAHA. Whine Sisters conclusion: Men are stupid. Well, those men. Notably Anthony “Whiner of the Year” Weiner. Congratulations to former Rep. (and new dad to a baby girl) Anthony Weiner.

In honor of Whiner of the Year, we’re having a contest! Well. Not really in honor of Whiner of the Year. We’re done with him. In honor of YOU, dear readers, because we love you and we haven’t given anything away in the longest time, we’re giving away a Kindle Fire (or the gift card equivalent, in the event you have or don’t want a Kindle Fire) to one lucky commenter from now until February 13, when we will choose a winner at random from commenters, to be announced on Valentine’s Day.

So don’t forget to come back to us day after day, maybe many times a day, and leave a comment.

I’ll get you started with a topic– did you watch the Golden Globes? I normally do a fashion report, but you can check out E! for the red carpet arrivals at The Golden Globes. I like Jessica Alba and Kate Beckinsale best, Amanda Peet and Busy Phillips worst, and then there’s a whole lot of in between (like, Meryl Streep, what were you thinking?). Who is your best and worst dressed of the Golden Globes? And what do you think of our choice for Whiner of the Year 2011?

I missed the whole Golden Globes because of a migraine, but was interested the next day and looked at the Red Carpet arrivals. I absolutely loved Sofia Vergara’s dress, and had a lot of looks I didn’t really like. The two looks I liked the least were Jessica Biehl and Amanda Peet. Talk about lace gone wrong – they looked like bad 80′s prom dresses.

Sophia Vergara has those killer curves. She did look great. And agreed on Biel and Peet.

I am an award show junkie… I really liked Claire Danes and Nicole Kidman’s dresses. I also like Angelina Jolie.. loved her styling with the red lips, bag, and her hair.

Nicole’s was a little different for her. I liked it, too. Can’t wait for SAG and Oscars.

I have to admit… I bought the hacking story! *hangs head in shame* Anthony Weiner was my favorite politician. :*( Can you believe he ruined his career so he could sext?! I’m more upset that he lied about it…. and thought he’d actually get away with it in this day and age! What a fool!

Lauren, it’s understandable. Who wants to believe the worst? Especially when you liked him or voted for him. Sad.

And would someone please enlighten me as to what is so great about Tilda Swinton??

Eek about Anthony Weiner! Didn’t he learn ANYTHING from the Vanessa Hudgens fiasco? Sheesh.

I didn’t watch the Golden Globes either. I did follow the action on Twitter though, while I was hanging out at Starbucks.

Well, that’s fun too. Plus, you had Starbucks.

Ewwwwww on Mr. Whiner Winner. LOL

I completely missed the Golden Globes. I have no idea how– probably the teen drama at my house giving me a freaking brain cramp! O_O

Oh, teen drama! Been there. You have our full sympathy and support. As Kathleen Givens used to tell me, “their brains do grow back.”

I thought Anthony Weiner was gross BEFORE this whole scandal erupted. So, I was quick to dismiss his excuses of being hacked. I didn’t want to believe he had been hacked–I preferred to think he was just that stupid. And, it turned out I was correct.

Regarding Golden Globe gowns, I didn’t watch the show but did see a picture of Angelina Jolie looking far too thin but gorgeous in a white dress with red accents–and big, bright red matching lips.

Weiner whiner trouble happens when you think below the belt. I’m hoping for a woman president in 2012 and a first 1st man.

I didn’t end up watching the awards, but I saw all the pics. Lea Michele was too glittery, I liked Zooey D’s dress, but I admit, I want her to trim her bangs… I can hear my mother’s voice in my ear, “Get your hair out of your eyes, you’re going to go blind.” I don’t know about the SMG dress. It wasn’t my fav. She needs simple and elegant, not poufy, IMHO.

Sherri Browning Erwin Sherri Browning Erwin January 17, 2012 at 4:59 pm

Yeah, my mom was always big on the “hair out of your eyes” too. Linda Gray on Dallas used to drive her nuts.

I knew of the Weiner scandal but hadn’t actually seen any of the pics. That’s his weiner?? It just looks like he has a lumpy butt cheek. And really, I don’t want to look at it any more to figure it out.
I have to say, as much as I’m sick of these politicians and their sexual escapades, I’m even sicker of these women who stand by them. WHY??? I’ve heard rumors that Maria Shriver is considering reconciling with Arnold. Really? If that’s true–wow. Just wow.
My Golden Globe best dressed pics are Angelina Jolie and Jessica Alba. Both gorgeous and elegant from head to toe. My least favorites were Lea Michele, not only for the way-too-busy dress but for the ridiculous posing she did on the red carpet (did you see her licking her lips like in a bad porno?? ICK!), and Jessica Biel who looked like a tragic Miss Haversham. And a special raspberry to all those actresses who don’t know what a hair brush is for (yes, I’m talking to you Jessica Biel and Reese Witherspoon).

Kathleen O'Reilly January 17, 2012 at 11:26 am

Maria should just tell Ahnold, “Hasta La Vista, Baby” and be done with it.

Reply

VB January 17, 2012 at 11:30 am

Jacquie, I heard that about Maria & Arnold, too! I cannot, repeat canNOT understand that. I understand that couples can get past infidelity and I’m all for saving a good marriage, BUT…I firmly believe that a serial cheater will remain a serial cheater (a la Ashton K.).

I heard she responded to those rumors that she was definitely not working on a reconciliation with the Governator. They were seen together for something to do with their kids. In that case, good for them for remaining civil. If it turns out that her response was false, I will be as disappointed as you all.

Yes, that’s his supposed erection in his undies, looks to be taken from him looking down at his bad self. Ewww. But there are worse shots out there, without undies. I chose not to share those. Though, if we needed a good laugh… no, still not worth it.

Bravo! Bravo! There was noone more deserving of your award then Mr. Wheiner in my eyes. Excellent choice.
As for the Golden Globe Awards fashion wins and losses, I loved Angelina Jolie’s gown and didn’t like Sarah Michelle Gellar’s.

I’d have to go back thru everything, but I loved Angelina’s look. Sometimes I wonder what some of them are thinking when they end up wearing what they do. I can’t remember who had the green sparkly sheath with a matching belt, but it was simple and I loved it. Zoey Deschnal’s look was totally her, right down to the matching nails. Loved it.

I was so happy to see Downton Abbey win. And now I have my husband watching the show. Love it!!

I hate when people in the Gov. whine about the things that they do and say they did not do , that is so stupid. Any to the dresses of the Golden Globes. I did not see the Red Carpet walk but I did see a few dresses that I thought where nice, a few that looked like they had a extra body part, like Angelina Jolie dress which made it look like on shoulder was higher then the other, and Natalie Portman’s extra rump.

Reply

Patsi Kennedy January 17, 2012 at 10:38 am

one, not on. sorry

Reply

Sherri Browning Erwin Sherri Browning Erwin January 17, 2012 at 5:05 pm

Oh yes, I know what you mean. Angelina’s color swath seemed a bit high on the neck, and Natalie’s dress was weird with that extra bustly bit off the side.

amber January 17, 2012 at 10:35 am

Reese Witherspoon seems to have broken out of the prim and proper mold with her dress this year, which I loved. It wasn’t over the top (ahem, Lea Michelle) but for her, I think it was a bit risque.

Reply

Sherri Browning Erwin Sherri Browning Erwin January 17, 2012 at 5:08 pm

It was nice to see Reese in something a little different, I suppose. But the dress did not move with her. It reminded me of the old-fashioned Playboy club bunny costumes on top. Which is maybe what she wanted, some vavoom for a change.

Anthony, Anthony…why would you think that any woman anywhere would want to see your penis? What is it with men and their confidence that their junk is the be all to end all?

I liked Emma Stone’s dress.

Emma Stone, yes! She always looks great.

VB January 17, 2012 at 9:16 am

Didn’t watch the show, but I checked out some of the pics. I thought Jessica Alba’s dress was gorgeous. I normally love Reese Wiitherspoon’s look, but the red dress didn’t do it for me. Maybe it was her hair, almost too casual? Maybe add a little bling? Not sure.

Lea Michele’s “Oh, God, I wanna be Cher” dress looks really bad. Really. I didn’t like anything about her look.

Reply

Sherri Browning Erwin Sherri Browning Erwin January 17, 2012 at 9:38 am

I agree on both. Reese was a mess and you should have seen Lea vamping for the cameras in the E! pre show. It was beyond ridiculous.

Reply

ev January 17, 2012 at 10:41 am

Glad it wasn’t just me that thought she was over the top both with the dress and the entire vamping for the cameras. I think she has just gotten a little too full of herself maybe??

Reply

VB January 17, 2012 at 10:46 am

Bingo, ev! Her next move will be a *ahem* spread in a men’s magazine. Or, has she done that already?

Reply

Sherri Browning Erwin Sherri Browning Erwin January 17, 2012 at 5:06 pm

Well, she did do those kind of sleazy pics for GQ, where she was in her underwear sitting on bleachers with her legs spread wide. Somewhat lacking in taste or good judgment perhaps.

Sarah Michelle Gellar was who I couldn’t remember…

Reply

Well I agree with Weiner for Whiner of the Year [I also wonder how long the marriage will last].. I love looking at all the dresses and enjoy hearing the ‘opinions of the fashion experts’… which rarely seem to agree… I thought that the neckline of Madonna’s dress looked painful and someon [I can't remember who & can't find a photo] had on a blue & white dress with kinda a tie-died effect… but her 2 year old daughter wanted her to wear it..

Reply

Sherri Browning Erwin Sherri Browning Erwin January 17, 2012 at 8:54 am

Yes, the blue and white was Sarah Michelle Gellar’s dress (Monique Lhuillier). Madonna’s (Reem Acra) did look painful, a bad fit and she over-accessorized. But that’s Madonna.

Margay January 17, 2012 at 8:19 am

Oh, don’t get me started on the whiner – he makes me ill. As far as the Golden Globes go, I only watched the last part of it because I was watching other things before (Once Upon a Time, Downton Abbey), so I didn’t see everyone’s dresses. I do think Sarah Michelle Gellar’s dress looked like a wedding party favor gone terribly wrong, but Octavia Spencer’s dress was lovely.

Reply

Sherri Browning Erwin Sherri Browning Erwin January 17, 2012 at 8:41 am

I liked SMG’s dress. I wouldn’t have chosen it for me, but I thought it was refreshingly different. Octavia Spencer looked gorgeous, though. One of the best of the night, agreed.

I liked SMG dress, too, Sherri. Joan Rivers and her crew choose SMG as Worst dressed (over Lea Michele??????) and I totally disagree. I thought SMG dress was fresh and fun and eye catching and unlike anything else strolling down the carpet–in a good way.

They should have chosen Kelly or Giuliana. They didn’t have to leave the studio to find worst dressed. They were in their own crew!
