After having spent the weekend laboring (writing diligently), I am planning on spending today the same way. Labor Day came to be to celebrate the laborer, and in remembrance of those who had actually died due to workplace issues (1894, this was long before OSHA ever came to be). Today, most workplaces are fairly hum-dum and not going to cause any deaths, but instead we use the holiday to mark the end of summer. The beginning of school, the end of vacations. Days are getting cooler (60 degrees now in NY), and it does feel like the end of summer.
As for us, we will be having dinner with our neighbors later. Hamburgers on the grill!
I am a big fan of grilling, of the smell of steaks or burgers wafting through the neighborhood. Every time I take a walk and someone is grilling, I immediately am thinking, “Yeah, let’s grill burgers for supper.”
Last week, we did BBQ chicken on the grill and it turned out YUM! I think my favorite thing to grill is steak, NY strip, a warm pink in the center. And we have these potatoes, cut up with onions, put on a grill plate with some butter. Oh, yeah.
So, today I’m wondering what everyone is doing? Celebrating the holiday, in a non-US country with no holiday to get you off labor? Anybody else grilling today?

No grill here.
My daughter is picnicing in Central Park though. Me, I’m laboring too.
Central Park is nice, and today is a GORGEOUS day for it!
Working–lots of writing to do. We grilled last night–Cutest College Boy Ever came home with hungry friends and we had a great dinner.
Hahaha. Cutest College Boy Ever? I have one of those, too, but I’ll let you claim it for now. He is pretty cute.
Ahhhh…. Must work today, too. Think it’s going to be a late night tonight, and tomorrow is First Day of School. Everybody up early, lunches to make. But then…. solitude.
My daughter started last week. She labored over homework all day to make up for taking the whole weekend off.
I’m laboring today….packing, packing, packing, writing, packing, writing, writing! And Julia is right, it is SO not the end of summer!
(Oh, but I will take a break for the last two episodes of Season One of the Vampire Diaries….gotta be ready for the premier!)
LOL! Good luck with packing. Sorry about the Texas heat. It’s 76 here. Bliss.
Its not the end of summer here, either, Kathleen. It feels smack dab in the middle of it. Hot! I am taking the Cutest Preschooler Ever and his sister to get ice cream later, but I will be working, too.
When my children leave home, is that when I start calling them the cutest ones ever?? Right now, my children are not cute.
