Oops. Ever Have One of Those Days?

by Julia London on August 19, 2010

It’s my turn to blog today.  Yesterday, I kept thinking there was something I needed to do, and I couldn’t quite think what it was.  Sherri announced she was leaving on vacation, and would we keep an eye on her posts?  I said, sure, I’ll be here, I have nothing but time.  Dee announced she was going on college tours, and would we keep an eye on her posts?  I said, Yes, I’ll be around, I’d be happy to do it.  You’d think one of those requests might have jogged my memory, but no.  I completely forgot.

And now, of course, I am pressed for time and can’t give this the usual thoughtful, careful, measured consideration I ALWAYS give the Whine Sisters :-) .

This has happened to me quite a lot lately.  I opened my door one morning to go for a run and there stood my dog trainer.  I had forgotten he was coming.  A few months ago, I was watching Oprah–Oprah!!–when my dentist office called and asked if I had forgotten in spite of the courtesy reminder the day before.  YES. I had forgotten in spite of the courtesy phone call.  Interesting, because I have NEVER forgotten a hair appointment.  And just two days ago, I wondered where I had put some of my better photos, like this, and had no trouble remembering what file:

So I beg your forgiveness for not having something a little more interesting or profound on this blog this morning.  Take heart in knowing that since I forgot to do this, I undoubtedly remembered to do something else, like put on underwear.

What’s the last big thing you forgot?  Do you have selective memory?  Did you remember to visit Whine Sisters today, or did you stumble by on accident?

Hah. You’re talking to the Queen of ForgetStuff here. I can be thinking of something in the kitchen, know I have to get it from my office, walk up to my office and forget why I was going there. It took me 37 years to remember that the husband’s birthday was on the 7d of Sept, not the 3th…and when I finally got it right, I divorced the bastard. One less thing to have to remember *snort*

I recently put the butter in the microwave and the bagel in the fridge. Not exactly on the ball if you know what I mean. And tonight I had us turn the wrong way and it was thirty miles before I figured it out. We’re here safe and sound thankfully! Although I’ll be darned if I know where here is exactly beyond MA.

Your mention of never forgetting haircuts reminded me of the time I walked out without paying for my cut. Thank goodness I’ve been going to her forever and she forgave me!

I forget stuff ALL THE TIME. I’ll be on my way out the door, saying to myself, “don’t forget to grab a bottle of water” (from the fridge in the garage). In the 3.2 seconds it takes to close and lock the door, I’ve forgotten and get to the car without the bottle of water. Drives me crazy.

Yes, and when I use my debit card, even tho people are nudging me from behind, trying to pay for their things, I write it down, because I will not remember what I paid for the purchase — if I even remember the purchase — when I reach my car. Unbelievable!

Oh, Julia, I have a solution for that one! I was in the same boat. Now, I take the receipt, wrap it around my debit card and either slip the card in my pocket or return it to the slot in my purse–WITH the receipt wrapped around it. Granted, sometimes I may get up to 3-4 receipts wrapped around the thing before I log in the checkbook, but they always get logged in. Hey, it works for forgetful me!

Oh, VB…words escape me all the time. But not thingamajig. That word never leaves my vocabulary.

Yes, thank God for thingamajig and doohickey! LOL

ROFL. You’re cracking me up today. I’ll bring the camera to Austin.

ROFL. This is cracking me up. I went to the blog this AM, noticed it was yesterday’s and then worried that I had forgotten to blog. Then, I logged into the calendar, noticed that is was Julia London’s turn, and that apparently she had forgotten not me. I began to laugh, relieved that at least my memory was not the first to go.

:) )))

In other news, I have not yet forgotten anything, but I write down EVERYTHING religiously because I’m a terrible forgetter.

LOL, Kathleen–I did that EXACT same thing this morning–came to the blog, saw it was yesterday’s, then immediately checked the blog calendar–then breathed a big sigh of relief when I saw it was Julia who’d forgotten, not me!

The last big thing I forgot? The English language. I have no problem with verbs, pronouns, prepositions or adjectives, but I seem to have forgotten my nouns! Seriously. I either mispronounce the noun I’m using, or I cannot even think of one that fits. So, I just get as close as possible, then do the charades thing with my hands to describe the word I’m searching for. Truly embarrassing.

Yes, but I can remember the stupidest things. So not ALL memory deteriorates, lol

I have heard that memory starts to deteriorate at 25 and it just gets worse with time – a sad thought to start the day.

True Michelle, but wisdom increases! So, while you may forget that you are smarter, you actually are. :)
