Not Enough Time for Gossip? Egads!

by Julia London on March 31, 2010

I am so pressed for time right now.  I have a deadline, which, if you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you have heard me whine about about enough already.  I got a puppy, who is as cute as a button but requires constant supervision.  And I am training for a 10k, which means I have to find time to run in there.  And I am slow, so for me to go the distance adds more time to the run than your average runner.

I tell you, I cannot get it all done.  I didn’t realize how stressed for time I was until I saw a headline that said even cops are worried about Lindsey Lohan now.  What??  How did I miss that juicy morsel in Lindsey’s total self-destruct?  And then, next to it, I saw that Jen (just Jen, we all know who Jen is) is hot with Gerard Butler!  I clicked on the link of course and discovered a treasure trove of celebrity gossip that is so up my alley.  Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin are splitting.  Kate Winslet and Leo DiCaprio are having a secret affair.  And Sandra is definitely seeking a divorce attorney.

Listen, I’m a celebrity news hound.  I joined Twitter when it first started just so I could follow celebrities.  It’s not pretty, but I own it.  And I know life has become too crazy when I don’t know what’s going on with Lindsey and Jen and everyone else.

So tell me, where does all the time go?  How do you know when you are stressed for time?  What’s the first thing to fall off?  What’s the one thing that you never lose sight of even when your life is out of control?

Housework is the first to, most especially laundry. There have been plenty of times when we’ve gotten dressed straight from the dryer. Grocery shopping somtimes falls by the wayside–can’t go to the supermarket when you’re looking like deadline roadkill. That’s when we have eggs and pancakes for dinner. I’m with you Julia about the workout–sometimes there’s just not time, but I feel like a slug if I skip more than a day.
Oh–and based on the gossip you described, I’d say you visited Perez Hilton’s site, LOL!

LOL! I visit his site at least once a day. How else would I know what’s going on in the world??

Writing is like having a small child with whom you want to spend every waking moment. For me, the first things that go, in no particular order, are: housework, makeup, hair and nail appointments (unless I have a signing or a speaking gig), clothing (caftans are the order of the day), cooking that requires more than 15 minutes.

There are things that I PERMANENTLY do not do. Viewing of regularly scheduled TV series is one. I don’t even LOOK. I know myself too well. Pretty soon, I’d be wandering into the den, muttering,”Can’t write now. Dancing With the Stars is on.”

When I do watch TV, it’s usually with my laptop. I email writing from one computer to the other and just keep right on working.

I never lose sight of taking care of the kitties. The cats never go without fresh water, fresh food, fresh bootie boxes, and lap time. If I skimp anywhere it’s in the sleep department when I’m pressed for time. I’m a horrible night owl since I’m not a morning person.

I don’t know how people do twitter and facebook. I’m not remotely interested. I don’t even do text messaging.

I know I’ve been busy when by the weekend my DVR is 70% or more full of TV shows. Then I start deleting.

Same here, Leslie! And then I wonder why I recorded some things. I think, why would I want to watch that? hahahaha

Times goes into the same black hole as dryer socks. :) I know I’m stressed for time when I have to revamp schedule and cast something loose (which is usually the extra-long workout stuff). As for the one thing that I never lose sight of it, it’s sleep and family. I get really unproductive if I get 6 hrs of sleep or less, so I adjust all the other schedules so that Kathleen gets at least 7 hrs of zzzs….

I sometimes have to let the exercise go, but I hate to do it. I feel so sluggish and fat when I don’t work out.

Me, too. I move from extra-long (1.5 hrs at shot) to short 30 min whenever I can stuff…

Twitter and Facebook fall to the wayside when I’m busy. And, um, laundry.

Laundry, gah! That definitely falls to the wayside.

Time management has always been difficult, but family always comes first.
