GOOD BUY TUESDAY–GOTTA GET A KEURIG!

by Jacquie D'Alessandro on March 9, 2010

If you are a coffee or tea drinker, have I got a machine for you.  It’s called a Keurig, and it’s a single cup coffee maker and I LOVE this thing.  No more wasted coffee, no more waiting for coffee to brew or tea to steep.  Just pop in a K-pak, press a button, and POOF–perfect coffee or tea every time!

Keurig machines are available at the Keurig website (Keurig.com), in department stores (Macy’s Kohl’s, etc.), Bed, Bath, and Beyond, as well as Costco.  I bought mine at Costco, which not only had the best price, but the machine came with a huge variety box of K-paks.  And let me tell you, there are HUNDREDS of different flavors, varieties and strengths of coffee available, from vanilla caramel (which is delicious, btw), to Kona, to blueberry crumb cake, to French roast.  On Keurig’s website you can order either a box of 25 K-paks, or a sampler which contains 5.  K-paks are also available at the stores I mentioned above.  Best of all, your cup of java or tea will end up costing less than 50 cents–that’s a whole lot cheaper than Starbucks.  Plus, not everyone has to have the same sort of coffee–I drink decaf and hubby prefers fully caffeinated.  No need to make 2 pots of coffee–everyone’s happy!

Another great feature is that you can brew your own ground coffee in the Keurig.  It comes with a little attachment you can fill with your own grinds (my husband enjoys the occasional cup using his Dunkin’ Donuts grind), and it’s perfectly brewed every time.  You can also use your own tea bags and Keurig will give you instant hot water–no more waiting for the tea kettle to boil!

As you can tell, I love my Keurig!  So tell me—what’s your fave hot beverage? Coffee?  Tea?  Hot chocolate?  Or do you have a different pick-me-up?  And have you found any good buys you’d like to share?

Sorry to be late for the Keurig party ! I love my little mini plus. Caribou Blend is my favorite k-cup and I really enjoy packing my own with Caribou Columbian or Costa Rican…that is truly the PERFECT cup of coffee. The best part is the milk frother! I had a 3-4 SB per week habit, but haven’t been there since the day I got my K. Funny that my two favorite “devices” begin with the letter k. Kindle and Keurig. It’s Saturday morning, I’m snuggled up on the couch with my two puppies, drinking my second coffee with frothy milk (okay…it’s half and half, and reading a wonderful book on my Kindle. Life is good.

We can have a Keurig party, I’m here in Atlanta and I’ll bring my machine too :) I love my little Keurig and it’s the best present I’ve ever gotten from my MIL! I’m the only one in the family who drinks coffee, so it’s perfect….plus when we have company over, it’s a snap to fix multiple kinds of hot drinks for everyone.

I bet your Keurig and my Keurig would really like each other, LOL! Of course if they ran away together, then we’d Keurig-less!

Would love to test out your Keurig in Atlanta with the Whiners. How fun! And yeah, why can’t cheesecake be good for us?

Excellent! Let’s pick a date. I’ll even bake a cheesecake (did I ever tell I once won an award with my cheesecake?).

Jacquie makes award winning cheesecake? Had I known, I might have moved to Atlanta long ago :)

P.S. Don’t you think Keurig should send Jacquie some product? She sold a few machines today!

LOL, Sherri! Yeah, where are those Keurig people?
As for the cheesecake–I won first place in the entire county when I was a teenager with that cheesecake recipe–a recipe from my sister, who is a fabulous baker and used to make cakes for restaurants. I haven’t made it a long time (it comes with a 6-month supply of cellulite) but if y’all want to come to ATL for a Keurig test drive, I’ll whip up a cheesecake.

Oh, my sis has one of these and really loves it. I love the idea of it, and it does make great coffee. As for Starbucks, the coffees truly do add up. I’ve gotten hooked on their iced tea, which is 0 cal and somewhat cheaper, and best of all, refills are .50!!

If you belong to Costco, you can buy Starbucks gift cards–you pay $80 for $100 worth of gift cards–which is 20% off. Good deal! That’ll buy you a lot of ice tea!

Hey Jacquie, I prefer tea. I have used a Keurig before…my car dealership had one, and I think that it is definitely a cool machine. Just dropping in to say hello and show some love. Have a great rest of the day.

Hi Julie!

Peace and love,
Paula R.

Okay, one day I was on the elliptical and Dr. Phil was on. He was counseling just married couples. One of them had trouble — the woman stopped by Starbuck’s twice a day and got venti lattes. They figured out it was something like $6,000 a year. The husband has been trying to get her to quit. She countered that he eats out every day. They figured the cost of his lunches was about the same. But as the husband pointed out — food is a requirement. But it was kind of staggering that they could save $12,000 by cutting out lunches and Starbucks. Yet it never quite works out like that, does it?

Holy crazy coffee drinker, Batman! Seriously, that woman needs a Keurig–and a financial advisor. That’s just crazy!

Oh, how cool! I haven’t looked at those things b/c I assumed you couldn’t use your own grinds. Now I must have a looksee….

Yay!

Yup, you can use your own grinds–just need the little basket thingy. It came with the Keurig I got in Costco, but you can also buy them separately at B,B&Beyond, or at the Keurig website. Our Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks coffee comes out great!

I’m a HUGE coffee drinker. Love to have this machine. I’m waiting for my second BUNN to die so I can buy one. Bunn makes a good pot of coffee and really good coffee pot. And I can drink almost a whole pot. I grind my own coffee. Love dark roast. That’s my favorite. My first Bunn lived for 13 years. I’m about 7 years into this one. I keep an electric kettle for hot tea or for French press coffee.

Earl Grey tea is the bomb! love it!

Hey Leslie–I have a French press–love it! Dark roast is my fave coffee, too. Given your love of coffee, I’d say you definitely need to get yourself a Keurig!

I”m not a coffee drinker but I can see that this could be really cool. The Man O’ My Dreams uses a single cup brewer but his is the low tech kind. Perch it on the cup add grounds and water. Still this is very sexy and he does have a b-day coming up.

Jacquie D'Alessandro Jacquie D'Alessandro March 9, 2010 at 11:20 am

I think he’d really like it, Dee–plus, there are so many different kinds of coffee to try, you’d always have gift ideas for him. And it’s great when you have company–I put a huge selection of coffees in a basket and let everyone choose their own–it’s always a big hit!

I love love love this machine. I am single and can never go through a pot of coffee by myself. I love it for the instant hot water as well…perfect for hot cocoa or adding it to instant oatmeal. I get the 20% off coupons to Bed Bath and Beyond and they will accept those coupons even if they expire, so it makes the cost of buying the coffee/tea pods even cheaper.

Yes!! I LOVE those Bed, Bath and Beyond coupons and always use them for my Keurig coffee purchases. Costco sells a big box of Caribou at a great price, but they don’t carry decaf (yet–I’m hoping they will). And yes, Michelle, I forgot about oatmeal–it’s perfect for that. I’m so glad there’s another Keurig lover here!

I was off caffeine for years, and then I read a study where a little caffeine is good for you. So now I am drinking a little each day. I still don’t do cokes, and usually it’s tea…but this winter, it was so cold and wet that I kind of got into starbuck’s skinny vanilla lattes. 90 calories for a tall. Bad habit. Very bad habit. But now that its back in the seventies, I am not as interested.

I am interested in tea, tho. I have to check this out!!

You’ll love it, Julia. Why don’t you come to Atlanta and I’ll you test drive mine? xox
As for Starbucks, the Keurig has pretty much kicked me of us of our venti skinny latte habits. We’re planning a cruise with the $$$ we’ve saved, LOL!

I love the occasional cup of coffee, but I usually drink green tea. I’ve cut my coffee every day habit, and I’ve cut most of my diet coke consumption. But every now and then, I love some hot coffee. It’s a pain to make at home because I’m making coffee for one. No one else drinks it. That Keurig looks great! I’ve been looking for something just like it.

Keurig has some really great teas–my dad and son like the green tea. I like the Earl Grey. I think you’d like it, Sherri. Come to Altanta with Julia and you can both test drive my Keurig. We’ll get Dee and the other gals to come too. Methinks we’d have a great time, LOL!

My coffee for 1 tends to be a 12 cup carafe….. but I’d love to switch to green tea. In theory.

I hear ya, JK–I’m not much of a green tea fan. Wish I was as it’s good for you. Why can’t cheesecake be good for you??
