So I looked at my calendar wrong, and thought I was writing about Good Buys, which would be an easy subject for me because I found the Best Freaking Buy Ever recently, both because I need it desperately as I finish up this book, and also because it’s free.
It’s Mac Freedom, and it’s this totally cool program that shuts down your access to the Internet for up to 8 hours. (You can get it back but it’s a Huge Freaking Pain in the Butt because you have to restart your computer). I tell you, it’s a dream. Unless your husband walks into your office and wants you to check the balance on the debit card we use for groceries. But seriously, who checks debit card balances in the middle of writing a totally cool action scene? Not me, that’s for sure.
As for Pop Culture, well, as you may have noticed, Sherri blogged the Oscars. Which, um, I would have if I’d watched them. And if I’d realized I was supposed to be blogging about Pop Culture. But I only watched the opening this year (she says, hanging her head in shame) because I was working (internet free!). So, go buy your free Mac Freedom (and if you like it, consider donating. I did!) and get your fill of pop culture by reading Sherri’s awesome posts from yesterday.
In honor of YOU, dear readers, because we love you and we haven’t given anything away in the longest time, we’re giving away a Kindle Fire (or the gift card equivalent, in the event you have or don’t want a Kindle Fire) to one lucky commenter from now until February 13, when we will choose a winner at random from commenters, to be announced on Valentine’s Day.

Oh! This is a great link to Oscar fashions, laid out Crayola style. They got some that I missed (like Demi Moore and Cameron Diaz, both stunning). Enjoy! And then come back and tell us your best and worst.

I don’t know if I could live without the distraction
Besides, I multitask. That said, I do keep it turned off during said action scenes.
Trust me. In my house, there are distractions aplenty. We even name them. And feed them…..
You’re a brave woman, JK, to unhook your internet. I don’t think I could do it. In fact, I think I may need to go to Internet Rehab.
Let’s all sing together: They tried to make me go to rehab and I said no, no, no!
This is my rehab
That program sounds amazing. I might need to get that. Except, I would talk myself out of it with the excuse that I might need to research something in the middle of the writing process. But that’s really no excuse, is it? I could always look things up later.
Been there, and it is weird. I put in XX’s, then went back. But so far, the longest I’ve done is 2 hours. And, well, it doesn’t shut down the iPhone, so I do still have email and a teeny tiny Safari screen…But that’s a pain. And I’ve been able to overcome the urge to check my email every 7.3 seconds.
I’m up to 23.9 seconds on the e-mailing checking, so I’m doing good!
Feel free to discuss, JK! I hope I didn’t steal your topic. Eek! All those dresses! I can’t help myself!
Haha! You SO did not! A, I didn’t watch (wah!) and, B, My blogs re fashion would be. “Look, dress pretty.”
