Oscar Fashions Pt 3

by Sherri Browning Erwin on March 7, 2010

Charlize Theron is usually on my best dressed list, and she would be again (great color!) if only it didn’t look like her dress was attacking her boobs.

Here’s Meryl. What do you think? I’m still thinking meh. She looks good, but not amazing, for me anyway. It’s not a wild misstep, I’ll give her that.

I think Gabourey Sidibe has a chance to sneak in and win Best Actress if Meryl and Sandra cancel each other out in the voting. And she looks good, very pretty with just a touch of sparkle (to go with her smile, and who wouldn’t be happy and bubbly on her first Oscar nomination for her first big role).

Jennifer Lopez might be trying to balance her booty with that big wave off to the other side, but it’s not working for me.

Helen Mirren, gorgeous as always.

Queen Latifah, also makes my Best Dressed List.

And have a look at Sarah Jessica Parker in vintage Chanel. I’m not loving it, but it works.

I haven’t seen Precious yet, but I absolutely fell in love with Gabourey Sidibe last night watching her red carpet interviews. She is hilarious and I love her spunk. I hope she gets cast in a comedy next. I agree with you about Charlize’s dress. When I saw it, I thought those rosettes looked like two mounds of pink whipped cream on the old chi chis.

The wrinkled pink material on Charlize Theron’s dress that cover her breasts emphasizes her small chest. It looks like she tried on the dress of someone with a much larger chest size, and since she didn’t fill it out the material wrinkled.

Exactly and I agree with Sherri, too — thought the dress was attacking her!

I think Meryl looks just lovely, her dress was designed by a project runway runner up named Chris March. I love love love Helen Mirrin, my goodness she’s still so hot. Nice job Sherri. Oh and Hate Sandra Bullock’s lipstick, I had that lipstick in 1984.

The lipstick really started jumping out at me mid-show. But her smooth shiny curtain of hair distracted me from it. I’m trying to love Meryl’s dress, but I just don’t love it. She’s so gracious and beautiful. I never feel like her clothes quite do her justice.

I think red is back… sigh — I look awful in red lipstick. Loved the spiderweb tatoo that someone referenced about Helen Mirrin– she’s sort of like this lovely package with a spicey underside.

LOL, what is wrong with Clooney tonight? Is he just having fun or what?

He’s almost surly. And you were right about SJP – dress is only hmmmm but hair is still a fav.

I’m winning our family Oscar pool. Mr. Right doesn’t like being wrong. :) He might be right on Best Picture, though. I chose Avatar. He went with Hurt Locker. We both picked Bigelow for best director, and the actor/actress noms (Bullock, Bridges). Any surprises left? We’ll see!

I still won the Oscar pool, but the strategy to split my vote on Director/Picture was probably a bad idea. I love Jeff Bridges, man. And his gorgeous wife, Sue. 33 years together. Amazing in Hollywood.

I know and the love shining in her eyes was a real tear-jerker for me. Of course he had me at Starman.

HAHAHAAA!! Jennifer Lopez just walked onstage to present an award and my son said, “Her dress looks like it’s made out of bubble wrap. Is it? Is it made out of bubble wrap?” LOL

Hahaha! He’s good.

I said the same thing to my husband and then proceeded to get up close to check it out. Yup… bubble wrap :)

Okay my actual nomination for best dressed is the lady presenting awards in the yellow. It’s a fabulous dress.

I’ll have to take a closer look at that.

Oh yeah, it’s pretty. Not my favorite, but it’s a good one.

Aw, Helen Mirren. Fantastic!

Charlize & JLo: Really bad. Really.

Helen’s is a light lavender color, too. Really lovely.

I like Sara Jessica Parker’s look — especially her hair. Did you see the tribute to John Huges? Blast from the past — Allie Sheedy and Judd Nelson. What’s with the purple dress the woman who gave the award for short film? Not my fav.

Zoe Saldana. She’s my first Worst Dressed candidate in the first Oscar pics section (it’s a three parter). Love the John Hughes tribute. Wow, so many great movies. Macauley Culkin still looks like a kid– he turns 30 this year!

SJP went for it, didn’t she? There’s no use wearing that dress without the perfect hair for it. So, good on her for taking it all the way.

Okay heading back to look at part 1 and 2. And really Ben Stiller…really?

Ben Stiller, yeah. Really?

Apparently, a lot of people didn’t love SJP last night. And as much as I agree with some of the comments, I’m just still so glad she didn’t wear another prom dress. Could it be that she finally realized her age? She’s not sixteen! Amen. Of course, maybe she didn’t have to go straight for what her mom was wearing when SJP was 16, but it’s an improvement, a step toward embracing glorious adulthood.

I didn’t love SJP last night. Noticed her face getting that “Palm-Springs-Golfer-at-60″ look. And also, they should have primped the hair before she presented. Ben Stiller was NOT funny, IMHO. Green screen schitk last year was much better. And I really did like Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin. Some of the jokes went flat, but overall, they made me laugh.

I liked Steve and Alec, too. I think that sometimes the audience didn’t get the joke right away. Was surprised that Neil Patrick Harris opened for them. Don’t mind NPH, just thought Steve and Alec could have handled it. I’ve heard lately that Ben Stiller is a big jerk. I wonder if it’s true or just one of those things that goes around.
