Fashion Friday: It’s all in the Shoe!

by Dee Davis on March 5, 2010

I grew up with a mother who loved shoes.  All her boxes were lovingly stacked in the closet and each time she’d pull one out I’d hold my breath waiting to see the unveiled glory of her day’s choice.   She has a size 6 triple A foot so quite honestly all shoes look marvelous on her.  But her taste in shoes was up to the perfection of her dainty foot size and the combination meant names like Bruno Magli and Salvatore Ferragamo were very much a part of my early vocabulary.  I also had a thing for Cinderella and her glass slippers.  So suffice it to say I was into shoes from a very early age.

With a size 7- A foot, I had no problem fitting into said slipper, and spent much of my early adulthood prancing about in fabulous heels (Candies, anyone?)  But then with the birth of my child, I spread out to a solid 7-B and then less than a decade later blew out my achilles (which is the story for another blog) and my affair with high heels –sadly came to an end.  Regretfully, I went from FMPs to EMSs in the blink of an eye—or the turn of an ankle as the case may be.

But that doesn’t mean I don’t still love shoes.  I may be wearing Clarks but my heart is with Christian Louboutin.  And so for the sake of art if nothing else – here are a few of the stars from various spring collections.

First off – the aforementioned Christian Louboutin with a cream and gold confection.  A shimmery nod at fashions from the fifties.

Next, from Jimmy Choo, my absolute favorite, a red patent open-toed platform shoe guaranteed to make men drool.

Manolo Blahnick’s spring entry with a sandal that pops with Matisse-like colors that will no doubt dazzle sidewalks in Manhattan this summer.

Next up, Stella McCartney’s causal chic.  Chino’s anyone?

And finally, with tongue firmly in cheek, Mui Mui’s nod to the sixties and flower power.  Reminds me of a black light poster I once had.

Now if only I had the achilles to support them…

So what are your favorite shoes?  And where is your favorite place to wear them?

I have big ugly feet and I work with four year olds (we have to be able to catch them) so nothing but comfort for me.

I’m definitely a shoe girl. Hard to pick just one favorite, but one of my faves is a pair of Chrisian LaCroix black and white polka dot T-straps with a satin ankle bow. So cute! I love to wear heels, but stick to 3 to 3 1/2 inch. Higher than that is uncomfortable unless I’m going to be sitting all night. I love wearing oxfords with jeans–very comfortable. I rarely, if ever, wear sneakers except for sports.

they sound fabulous — I even think maybe I remember them… is that possible?

Maybe–I’ve worn them to RWA.
You know what’s weird? All of my friends say the same thing you did, Dee, about your feet getting bigger after having a baby. I wore a size
6 1/2 my whole adult life until I had my son–ever since then I’ve worn a 6. Go figure. Sadly, my feet are the only thing that got smaller after having a kid, LOL!

I don’t know what it is about denim and red shoes but it works beautifully. I had a wonderful denim dress once. Huge long circular skirt with high neck in front and no back. It was great. And I wore red heels with it. Gosh I wish I still had that dress. And the body to wear it.

Since I’ve got duck feet, really high high heels or very tight shoes are not an option. My favourite shoes are Gabor shoes – they look fantastic and are very comfortable. Last week I bought a pair of red shoes for spring (have a look at them here) – & I love them to pieces! Immediately after I had bought them I went and got some dark denim for a nice dress to go with the shoes. :)

Love the Jimmy Choos!!! The classic look always gets to me. Sometimes i think shoes go too funky and it ruins it (although there are people that can carry funky well). As for fav shoes, I’m all for practicality and heels kill my feet. (Most likely because I’ve never been in a job where I needed to wear them).

My daughter gave me Uggs for Christmas, and I’ve become a fan. I used to have a pair of Bass pennyloafers that I wore for YEARS. I still might go search out another pair, only because I love the look of them.

I do like the red ones. Not as much a fan of the sandals. And the funky black ones remind me of my old tap shoes.

Looooove those shoes, Dee. I used to wear shoes like that. I used to run to the subway in shoes like that (not quite as high, but still). Now, my back hurts and my feet cramp. HAHAHA. Either I am old or a cavewoman. You be the judge.

Well the alternative doesn’t appeal at all — so old will have to do.

Hmm. Old or cavewoman? Old or cavewoman… I need more time. Um, I mean neither! Of course. It’s all that training you’re doing for the 10 K.

OH! It’s working now. I couldn’t comment earlier.

I love looking at shoes but wearing them is another matter. When it comes to wearing shoes, I like athletic shoes. Very comfortable shoes. Most of the evening gowns I like to wear to the grocery store don’t really go with sneakers, but no one ever says anything so I guess it works. *shrug*

There is a time and a place for sneakers with gowns… I mean there has to be right?
