Somehow I got my blog days screwed up. I had me down for Saturday. Sorry! Whiny Wednesday, huh? Kathleen talked last week about how she is sick of whiners. Sorry sister — this whiner is back. Let me review yesterday for you:
We had a snowfall in Austin of two inches. Yes, you read that right. Two inches. It was great fun for us because it never snows, and I think the last time it actually stuck on the ground was something like 1964. Anyway, I was very excited that the Cutest Preschooler Ever would get to see snow for the first time in his life. The day before when I told him it would snow and we could play in it, he got a very curious look on his face and asked me, “Will we need a ladder?” The child has seen flurries, but didn’t know snow could stick. Oh boy, was this going to be fun! But who wakes up with a raging fever? Yes, that kid. I drug him out anyway.
He had a great time. But when we came back in, fever made him very grumpy and that kid complained and cried and did things kids do when they are sick. Sort of took the fun out of the first and last snow he will see. This morning, he is very perturbed because the snow is gone.
But that’s not all! Last night, I bought into the Olympic hype for the female skaters. I tuned in at seven. I sat through hours of bobsledding and ski-jumping and Nordic combined, and while I enjoyed those sports, I don’t have that kind of time. Finally, finally, at around 9:45, the female skaters who will contend for a medal were up. The first one skated. She was brilliant. And as she sat down to wait for her scores, the television went black. Oh no! The cable is out! But nooo, the cable is NOT out, only NBC is out. NBC was out for an hour because of some electrical glitch at their transponder or transceiver or transmitter. But not for everyone. Only Time Warner customers. I missed all the premiere skating. And I didn’t finish the work I was supposed to be doing because I was frantically searching Twitter (my news source for everything) and the internet trying to find out what happened.
There is my rant. Today, the sun is shining and hope springs eternal that it will be a good day. How has your week been so far? Anything you want to whine about? Take advantage of whiny Wednesday!

Good Morning, Julia -
So sorry you missed the Olympic coverage due to the transmission problems on Tuesday night. Wanted to let you know you can catch the action you missed on Time Warner Cable — free, and on demand. Updated content should be posted early today (2/25/2010) on Sports On Demand Channel 1460 and HD Showcase Channel 1479. Those programs are free to Time Warner digital subscribers.
So, watch it when it’s convenient for you this time!
Ladies, let this be a lesson to us all. Whining pays off.
Cindy, I don’t know how you found my rant, but thank you for the information. I found the performances at nbcolympics on line yesterday, so I am ready for tonight.
So, took the car in for an oil change. It needs a new timing belt and water pump. So $50ish job is now $800ish.
Sigh.
AND the part they got in was wrong, so I don’t get my car until late tomorrow. Nobody’s fault, but whine, whine, whine!
Nothing sucks worse than car stuff. I hate spending money on cars to begin with, but repairs? Get a new one, Julie!
HA!
Well, the Korean girl was wonderful… sorry you had to miss it. But i’m sure it’s on You-Tube or somewhere or other to view online. And the Canadian girl who lost her mother, too. I am whining because I totally blew my diet last week on college tour and last night because I was in a celebratory mood and now I have to start all over again–and I don’t want to. There — I whined. (and wined…which is no doubt the source of my problems) Cutest kid in the world is totally right!!!!!! Love the pic.
Yes, I saw it this morning nbcolympics. You can watch all the performances. I can’t believe the Canadian girl could do it. More power to her.
Hey, Dee, didn’t I smell chocolate cake coming from your place the other day?
It is tough getting back on track. And so unfair that it’s much easier to put on pounds than take them off. Why isn’t cake a health food?
Julia, I am laughing so hard! A few weeks ago we got 4 inches here – a little north of Atlanta – and so I shoved my kids in their “snow” gear and forced them to play in the snow. They lasted about 15 minutes before they complained about being cold. As a girl from Vermont, this broke my heart and also made me call my children wimps
I want to whine b/c I am sore! I changed my workout and man I can tell. My shoulders and chest are killing me! Today is my off day so I only went for a long walk but I know that my workout tomorrow is going to be miserable!
I HATE when that happens, Aly! I am too old to do new tricks and I don;t like them to hurt.
Wow, Julia! That cute little boy is growing like a weed!
My biggest whine has not changed in two months. Too cold and TOO MUCH SNOW. We’ve only had one large snow (about 10″), but we keep receiving 1-4 inches once or twice every week. I am literally counting down the days until Spring.
That’s something to whine about, VB. Every year at this time around here. Spring! Where is it? Coming soon. Not soon enough.
Yeah, isn’t he? He’s almost employable, hahahahaha.
Gotta say, I don’t miss those West Texas winters. Today I was reminded what happens when snow melts. What a mess. Whine.
P.S. Those Wicked whoopies are basically moon pies.
No, moon pies have a cookie exterior (usually graham and chocolate dipped) and marshmallow inside. Whoopie pies are cake sandwiched around a creamy-fluffy frosting filling.
Sherri, you are right. I found lots of interesting mail in my junk mail from not only you, but the loopies as well. Who knew??
Oh, and at risk of hogging the comments section, I want to add that you missed some amazing skating. What a shame. Joannie Rochette was particularly good, and it was very moving because she ended her routine and burst into tears, and her dad in the audience was bawling, and even the commentators (Scott Hamilton) were crying along with her. So of course, I started crying. Then I looked at Mr. Right (who almost never gets emotional) and he was dabbing away a tear, too. Quite a night, once it kicked it.
Before that we were flipping to AI and just shocked at so many really not good performances there. Where did they get some of these singers this year? Wow. Ugh.
I found out you can watch the performances at nbcolympics.com, so i got to see them all after all. I really have nothing to whine about today, but does that stop me? Not in the least.
I thought they were all terrible — watched on DVR after the skating — was really disappointed. (at AI — not the skating).
So you must have missed the few emails I sent out to the Whiners about how I might have changed people around this week because I fixed the calendar for the rest of the year and this week got some changes as a result? Why do my mails go to your spam filter? Come to think of it, you never responded to a few of them over the weekend. Hmmm.
Poor Jacquie. I have definitely been there. Good luck with the brilliance!
Bummer on the skating, Julia. Hope the Cutest Preschooler Ever is feeling better today. My whine is that I’m under an ubertight deadline. I’m existing on not enough sleep and too many fattening carbs. I looked in the mirror this morning (huge mistake) and actually scared myself. A shower is definitely in order today. Actually an entire makeover is in order, but that will have to wait.
And now, I’m back to work and hoping I’ll think of something brilliant to write.
I have been great on my new healthy eating mission (except for Saturday, when I snuck in a whoopie pie- could not resist– check them out at http://www.wickedwhoopies.com –it’s a New England thing, I guess). But I’m also in super whiny mode, and I’m trying to write something brilliant, too. Deadlines. Wah!
