My sister is visiting from Pennsylvania, a real treat as we don’t get to see each very often. As such, I wanted to do something fun and memorable with her–something she wouldn’t ordinarily do. Since we are both huge Princess Diana fans, I took to her to the Atlanta Civic Center to the Celebrate Diana exhibit that is in town until June.
The exhibit is FABULOUS. If you’re a Princess Diana fan and have an opportunity to see this display as it travels around the world, definitely go. There are displays of her personal effects, private photos and video, jewelry, and Spencer family history. Also on display is a huge assortment of her wardrobe, the centerpiece of which is her magnificent wedding gown.
I couldn’t believe I was standing only inches away from that incredible dress. I vividly recall waking up at an ungodly hour to watch Diana’s wedding on tv and how I gasped when she stepped out of that carriage wearing that gorgeous princess gown. It gave me goose bumps when I saw it on tv all those years ago–seeing it in person was…wow. Even after all this time it’s difficult to believe that such a beautiful, vibrant woman who did so much good is gone.
Afterwards, I took my sister to the Ritz Carlton for afternoon tea. What a fun splurge! I had Earl Grey and she had Mandarin Jasmine—delicious! And the cakes! And sandwiches! And chocolate! And scones! And clotted cream!
Holy calorie count, Batman! Absolutely delicious–and we’ll be carrying it around on our butts until 2015. But hey–that’s what treadmills are for, LOL! Which led us to take a 3 mile outdoor walk after we got home. I think it walked off half a scone. We should have walked to Los Angeles, LOL! It was a fabulous, fun and memorable day.
So–what have you done lately–or are planning to do soon–that’s fun?

In honor of YOU, dear readers, because we love you and we haven’t given anything away in the longest time, we’re giving away a Kindle Fire (or the gift card equivalent, in the event you have or don’t want a Kindle Fire) to one lucky commenter from now until February 13, when we will choose a winner at random from commenters, to be announced on Valentine’s Day.

That afternoon tea at the Ritz Carlton sounds fantastic!
Lately, I’ve been doing LOTS of things for fun. Watching LIFE (with delicious Damian Lewis) on DVD, watching the first season of THE MIDSUMMER MURDERS on DVD, sewing, cutting out the pieces for my very first home-sewn blouse. But the best thing this week was an unexpected invitation to a dinner party on Friday. I happened to meet a friend in the parking lot of a supermarket in Mainz and she invited me to the dinner party she was giving that night. I had so much fun that evening, and nearly laughed my head off at times.
With all the snow we’ve had, I took my kids sleigh riding. I forgot how much fun it is to fly down the hill on a coaster. Granted, my butt still hurts from when I was airborne and landed pretty hard, but it was still loads of fun.
I got up early for that wedding, too, and loved watching. I made a plan to marry Edward when I grew up, but it didn’t quite work out for us. My kid sister plotted to marry William. They’re the same age. But I think she’s out of luck, too. Another royal wedding would be fabulous, though. I’ll settle for tea.
Fun times here for Mr. Right and me– we just dropped our son back at college. Our daughter is in NYC until tomorrow, staying with friends. We have the house to ourselves! So what am I doing online? See you later.
That tea really really makes me want to have high tea somewhere. Hey! At the Ritz in Atlanta with Jacquie!
Road trip! Please come visit. I promise not to make you pack TOO many boxes, LOL!
Only having limited fun lately. Lots of family stuff during the day, and working on WIP at night. Give me a couple of weeks, and I’ll be ready to do some serious heel-kicking. There’s a ton of movies that I want to see, got a list of books to read, and will be happy when life gets back to same ole, same ole.
Been on College tour 2009 here. Which although is all about finding the right college for my daughter, turned out to be a bunch of fun too. Besides touring in the snow for two days and trudging through it the rest of the time, we got to see some gorgeous campuses. Vassar topping the group. And also the Corning glass museum which was fascinating. It was a lot of fun overall. And so I’m actually looking forward to our New England campaign at the end of next month. Do need to win the lottery though.
Forgot to say — LOVE high tea. Especially out the Regency here in NYC. Clotted cream… YUM.
Sounds like a blast, Dee!
Hi Jacquie, it sounds like you had a blast. I LOVE Princess Di. I aspire to be like her when I grow up
. She was quite a role model for me as I was growing up. I too loved watching the wedding ceremony. It was such a fairy tale wedding too; it made me believe that fairy tales do come true. If the tour comes to this side of my world NE, then I will definitely try to go and see it.
Ritz Carlton, I have to go there one day, and check out what is what. I am glad you had such a wonderful time with your sister. And, a 3 mile walk isn’t so bad right? I am sure you took off more than 1/2 a scone. LOL!!!
Today, I am working on my WiP and blog hopping, checking in with my peeps, you know? The sun is shining, and I will be going out soon. Just relaxing is good enough for now. Later, I will be catching up on my reading. Have a great rest of the day okay. I will try to check back in later.
Peace and love,
Paula R.
Today, we are going to go pick out our new puppy. I can’t wait! He’s not coming home with us for another few weeks, but we’re going to go pick him out from the litter…which means we will be surrounded by puppies today. Does it get any better than that?
I’m so happy for you Julia, do you think you will get out of there with just one?
Yay, post pics!!!
Oh, how cute! You must post pics when you get them!
We got out with just one. Those dogs are enormous! My husband was teetering on the edge, but when I reminded him of how much money one dog cost, and then multiply that times 2, plus the dog hair the used to bug him…he backed down. I don’t know how to post a picture here! They were so CUTE
Post a pic tomorrow, free day. Congratulations! How fun and sweet.
Ohhh sweet puppy breath, and waggy tail.
Fabulous, Julia! Can’t wait to see a pic! I bet the Cutest Boy Ever is totally excited! xox
Ooooh, furry babies!!! Can’t wait for the pictures!
