Well, yet another Jane Austen spinoff has arrived – Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters. Huh? But yes, reader, it’s a real book. And a real phenomenon. Amazing. And there’s another new one: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Zombie Jim.
Zombies, Sea Monsters. I can’t wait to see what’s next: Gone with the Zombies. Alice in Zombieland. Or maybe Zombies with the Wind. No, wait, that one’s not so good. Oliver Zombie. Middlemarch and Sea Monsters. I truly don’t get the zombie thing, but then, I didn’t get the vampire thing. But I do understand the yearning for some light-hearted entertainment right now.
What are you reading and watching these days to take your mind off reality?

Sewing books!
To celebrate the end of the winter term, I spent the whole day at the sewing machine today and put together a cute little denim bag with sunny, yellow lining. I even managed to attach the handles correctly! (Yay me!)
Novel-wise, I’m reading Kerry Greenwood’s “Ruddy Gore”, and as for TV shows, I got Simon Schama’s “A History of Britain” this week (it’s a tad boring, though, not quite as much as fun as David Dimbleby’s “How We Built Britain” or Alan Titchmarsh’s “The British Isles – A Natural History”). Still waiting for the second series of “Life” to arrive in my mailbox.
I know we just talked about we were reading, but this one made me laugh (plus not many classic Kath posts have Saturday questions). She wrote it the very week or so after she was encouraging me to write Jane Slayre, and I was just kind of perplexed by it. One of those “Huh” moments. But I had also recently skewered P and P and Zombies, so… I knew the spirit behind it. And then jumped on board with the mash-up crowd. And by the way, Alice in Zombieland sounds promising.
I’m watching– The Olympics! Yes! Just watched some speedskating. Really sad about the Luge death. Poor guy. And Survivor just kicked off a new season. Plus, I have been falling behind on my RITA reading.
I’d totally read Alice in Zombieland, LOL!
As for reading, just finished Gone With The Wind … and am starting a slew of RITA books.
I MUST read GWTW–I’ve seen the movie dozens of times–it’s in my top ten faves, but somehow have never read the book!
You should read it! It was a great read. But you should also know that the movie veers somewhat from the book. In some ways, I preferred the book. In others, the movie.
Reading early Julia Quinn books. And watching too much TV
Chuck, 24, House, Castle, The Good Wife, Idol, Survivor Heroes and Villains and Modern Family — which absolutely has me snorting every week. Oh and Brothers and Sisters. See…too much TV. Thank goodnes for the DVR. (Which broke by the way and I lost the last hour of the new Emma.)
Dee, I saw one Castle episode and really liked it, but haven’t caught it since. I’m planning to buy the 1st season when it comes out on DVD and do a Castle marathon. Has anyone seen Royal Pains? Being from NY I really liked it since it takes place in the Hamptons. I’m waiting for the 1st season to come out on DVD to catch the few episodes I missed.
Oh no! You lost the last hour of Emma! How awful, when you’re following something and lose the end. I do need DVR.
Still reading Await Your Reply by Dan Chaon. Good book, but time has been an issue for me. Watching the Olympics! Can’t wait for Westminster Dog show! And American Idol and the Bachelor.
Jacquie, I watch all the housewife shows, but for some reason, Orange County turns me off. Who knows why them and not the others?? It goes back to the night they tried to get their friend as drunk as they could so she’d make a fool of herself. Ick.
Yes, Julia! I felt really bad for Gretchen that night. She’s my favorite OC housewife. I WISH I could quit them–maybe this season will push me over the edge, but I somehow doubt it.
Reading my RITA books. As for shows–can’t wait to watch the Olympics!Other must-see shows are Big Bang Theory (if you haven’t seen it, you should check it out), Project Runway, and Housewives of Orange County (I’n not proud of that last one, but alas, I’m hooked).
Jacquie, wow! Did you just see Apolo Anton Ohno! That was amazing!
