Okay, we’ve all admitted which reality shows are our secret pleasure. And we talked about how often we tune in and/or tune out. But what we haven’t admitted is which one we secretly wish we were starring in.
Me, I’ll confess. I’d kill to have been young enough to have tried out for American Idol. I have absolutely no idea what would have happened. But I’d have been there with a number plastered to my chest giving it my all in front of Simon, Randy, Paula (I admit, I just can’t let her go) and the rest. But alas, the opportunity came too late. And I’ve already admitted my obsessive love for So You Think You Can Dance. Now in all truth, I can sing—but I can’t dance. So my chances of being on that show aren’t limited just by age. Still, I’d love to lose myself to the music and throw my best into a routine choreographed by Mia Michaels.
Finally, there’s the cooking shows. Top Chef, Next Iron Chef, and Next Food Network Star. Okay, there really isn’t an age requirement here. But I’m not a chef. And although I did actually do a cooking segment on local TV years ago, I think that ship has probably sailed. Still, it’s fun to imagine myself as the next Rachel Ray.
So come on—which show do you dream of appearing on?
P.S. Thanks to Mz. Julia London for the fabulous photoshopping . With a little help, anything is possible.

Guess I should duck in here more often!
Julia and I used to watch Amazing Race at the same time and e-mail back and forth. I’d get something in the neighborhood of 30 e-mails in a 1-hr show. “OMG!! Did you HEAR that?!?!?” “She DIDN’T just do that, did she???”
So, Julia and I will be on the Race. At this point, we’ll be the old farts who are out by week 3. But Julia reassured me that she can drive a car with a stick shift on the ‘wrong’ side of the road. I forget…am I supposed to do the bungee jumping? Do they make reinforced bungees?
Amazing race for me too vb. Hey it’s never too late vb! That princess show sounds right up my alley too
There are two I’d love to be on–Dancing With the Stars and Project Runway. Not because I know how to salsa or how to make clothes, but those are two things I WISH I was able to do. Taking ballroom lessons and sewing classes are on my Bucket List.
I’ve always thought salsa would be fun!
Dee, you look like Dakota Fanning in your Idol auditions. Very sweet of you to give Julia London some photoshopping fun.
A very old Dakota Fanning. And she’s quite the little miracle worker isn’t shee… look–ME in American Idol. Of course I got four no’s — no wait it’s a fantasy — I got four yes’s.
Oh, I often fantasize about how fun it would be to be on America’s Next Top Model. I’ve never been tall or thin enough, and I hate getting my picture taken. I’m so bad at it. But still, I watch that show and think I am an expert in the modeling world.
My stepson tried out for AI. He was told no thank you and never put on t.v. the end. He went solo since they don’t take bands, he’s very accomplished, writes his own songs and music, but their looking for drama and he’s just a good singer. Oh well as for me, I’d never go on a show, as a matter of fact I was hunted down by the “nanny” show at a park one day and I told them to buzz off. Well I was nicer, but my kids were behaving I have no idea why they approached me. Zak’s band is called Blueskyreality if you want to google him, he’s all over the internet.
I’m a fan on Myspace!
Well now I feel bad, I guess I’ll have to join Myspace to be a fan too. Thank you for your support, he’s a great kid, I know because I just gave him $350 for his truck.
The reality TV show I would most want to be on is The American Princess which aired on WE. 12 women compete in England to win a title and a huge check. They get to wear pretty dresses, and learn how to pour tea, and did I mention live in England for like 6 weeks hanging out in castles and dining with aristocrats?
Oh that’s sounds like my — cup of tea! Seriously I’d LOVE to live in England! Love it!
That sounds amazing.
Never heard of that show, but since my nickname in some circles is Princess, it’s definitle right up my alley (or castle corridor!).
DEFINITELY (sorry for typo!)
How cute you were on Idol!
Ditto on your Idol and Dance aspirations. I would add Survivor, but I wouldn’t last through the first day without food and water. They would kick me off for whining!
Number one on my list of reality wishes would probably be The Amazing Race. I haven’t watched the last few seasons, but it is one of the coolest reality shows evah.
The bugs would get me on Survivor. After a day or so with all the creepy crawlies they’d be admitting me to the psych ward.
I’m on Survivor with VB. In my dreams. We would form a secret alliance and take them all out. I would have to take her aside and tell her to pretend to be tougher before she got the boot! Actually, I would probably lose control of my social game and get sent packing. And who are we kidding, I would be sent home first for being weak at challenges. And it would be pretty hard to be the old lady in the serious full coverage tankini and shorts with all the young things in bikinis. So my next goal would be to get my sister and stepdad to compete. They would both make for good TV.
