Pop Culture Monday: SAG vs Golden Globe

by Sherri Browning Erwin on January 25, 2010

Comparisons are fun! Shall we have a look at some different style choices for SAG/Golden Globes?

Christina Hendricks. Full figured gal, on the hit show Mad Men. I love that she has amazing curves. And she knows how to play them up or down, clearly. For the Golden Globes, she let the globes come out to play. Va-Voom (love the color). For the SAG, she dressed a little more conservatively, but still stunning in red. Which do you prefer?

Lea Michelle, from Glee. She chose a sophisticated green number for the SAG awards, but she went classic black with a frothy youthful style for the Golden Globes. Which would you choose?

Oh, Meryl. Love the classic black (Golden Globes), but why two different sleeves? Still, overall not bad. It’s growing on me. Compared to the SAG choice! That busy pattern hurt my eyes, though the cut wasn’t bad. Maybe the SAG dress in basic black would have been the winner here. Thoughts?

Meryl’s green and black number, unfortunately, landed her as my worst dressed from the SAG Awards. I have high hopes for her Oscar appearance, though.

And behold, my JANE SLAYRE cover. What do you think? I believe Jane might be one of the best-dressed demon slayers of her time, but maybe I’m partial.

I love Jane Slayer’s cover, it looks very rich and I’ll be excited to read it. I’m sick of stars and I’m not going to look (right now). Authors are the real stars, you should have a Whine Sister’s fashion show, now that would be worth checking out.

A Whine Sisters Fashion Show, love it. That would be, um, interesting. Of course you’re sick of stars. You have to live near them.

I love the cover for Jane Slayre. It rocks. I don’t like Meryl’s SAG dress at all. The design is fine, but what is up with that fabric? Gag.

LOVE Jane Slayre! She wins hands down with that dash of red.

Meryl isn’t as glamorous as the other women, but she’s 30 years older and that kind of glamour (slim, form-fitting dresses, lots of ruffles) is hard to pull off. I think she looks really nice in both photos, but the print from the SAG awards is a little bath curtain-ish. At your tropical time share.

First of all, Jane Slayre could kick all their butts–she looks MAHVELOUS! Love, love, LOVE that cover, Sherri! Of the 2 Christina dresses, I like the Golden Globe one better, but it seems as if a load of actresses were wearing that very pale color. It’s pretty on her, but I think I’d prefer it in a color that didn’t look like skin.
I like both of Lea’s dresses, especially the gorgeous color on the SAG choice.
And in the interest of “if you can’t say something nice,” let me merely say that Meryl Streep is a fabulous actress and I loved her as Julia Child.

Maybe that pattern looked better in person. I would like to give Meryl some credit. But let’s face it, I blew that “if you can’t say something nice,” thing a long time ago.
