Ah, let’s have a look at some of the gowns!
This looks better in the picture, but EW! (and I don’t mean Entertainment Weekly). Kate Hudson looked like a showgirl well past retirement age. Chloe Sevigny (who won for TV Supporting Actress, Big Love) was equally oddly attired– but then, Chloe is always outstanding on the red carpet for her unique looks. And, she was pretty excited to win, if you know what I mean (no bra).
And Meryl… Meryl Meryl. Also a winner for Julie and Julia (which I haven’t seen, but I just got back from It’s Complicated and you must go see it! I haven’t laughed so hard in ages). But Meryl wore an odd belted black number with one long sleeve and one short sleeve. Apparently, she still needs a stylist. But she looks so gorgeous in It’s Complicated that I forgive her.
Diane Kruger took a risk and tried some color– hoo boy. Neon pink? Maybe not the best look.
Julia Roberts just threw on some old thing and came out to celebrate. And yet, she manages to pull it off because a) she has that smile and b) I admire her for choosing a dress that leaves room to chow down and enjoy the evening.
And Nicole Kidman? I can’t decide. On the one hand, kind of a cool twenties thing going on. On the other hand, a little too shapeless and blah? Opinions? Also, the Hangover just won for Best Motion Picture Comedy. It was okay, but It’s Complicated was much, much funnier (and just better in general). Thoughts?

Not crazy about Meryl’s dress, but she looked radiant at the awards. Meryl and Sandra, my new girl crushes. Jodie Foster and Reese W. looked good, too.
I’m tired of Nicole as a style icon, she’s too thin and way too much botox. I like Meryl she looks like a real human and so does Julia Roberts, lately they ascribe to being mom first and star second. I like that.
