It’s time to review our favorite fashion trends of the waning year. Several looks dominated the world of fashion in the last 12 months, most notable among them the empty purse look. In 2009, empty purses were everywhere. We like to think of this as a fashion statement, a rejection of the hedonistic lifestyles of the past years.
The more fashion forward you were in 2009, the more empty space you revealed in your handbag. Now we wonder: will 2010 reverse this trend, returning us to the years of uber-expensive handbags? Or will we all be carrying wrinkled plastic bags from the grocery store and calling ourselves fashionistas? Stay tuned, y’all.
And then there was the newest trend in outer wear, a scaled down version shown here with the optional pocket dog and optional pocket dog Santa jacket accessories. Do you have your own N95 respirator mask, or are you still wearing a faux sugical mask like this one? Whichever you chose, isn’t it wonderful how the white respirator mask goes so well with every season’s look?
We’re sure this fashion trend will be with us for months to come!
Fashion 2009 fashion did not stop with clothing and accessories. Even the Christmas lights reflected this year’s outlook. Some got fully into the spirit of the season. Others were more restrained, showing their fiscal and emotional outlooks. Which style suits your end of year mood?

Oh, and the offical color of 2010 is turquoise. Look for it to show up everywhere, in clothing, shoes, appliances and household goods. I’m not planning to go with the latest fashion trend here. I’ll be looking for some old-fashioned green stuff to surround myself with.

Turquoise is the new avocado green. I imagine the house market in fifteen years with homeowners trying to unload those dated turquoise applianced kitchens on new buyers. But I do like turquoise.
Who does set the color of the year? I want that job! 2011, watermelon. You heard it here first.
Oh wait, or maybe chartreuse. Yeah, 2011 chartreuse. What do you think?
See, that’s exactly what I’m afraid of. Turquoise dishwashers, washing machines. Mixers. It’ll be everywhere.
Watermelon? I like that. But not on my fridge, thank you very much.
I love turquoise–for clothes. They’re making appliances in that color? And here I thought stainless steel was the “in” thing for appliances. Love the cute little doggie in the pic! I’m not a big Hobo purse fan–I’d never find anything in a purse like that!
My new camera is turquoise, not because of it’s fashion value, but because it’s totally valley girl, I’m so sure, you know. I’m living in brown and maroon, together, warming up my old, pale complexion, or just trying to blend in not really sure which.
Ditto. OMG, I love it!!!!!
I could go with a turquoise dishwasher. Yup. I think I could do that.
I wear turquoise in the summer, with a nice crisp white wine and some pita chips and hummus, but I don’t want my refrigerator that color. Turquoise always reminds me of the plastic ware that was everywhere when I was a kid. Decades and decades ago, Dee.
Who decides the official color of a year, I wonder? Anyone know?
Well first off I needed a laugh – -thank you! And secondly — I’m delighted to hear turqouise is “the” color–now I can accentuate my very empty purse with all the Southwestern jewelry I have from bygone decades. (And sadly I can actually say decades with authority…). Anyway everything old is new again!
Purple. I like turquoise on occasion, but my color is deep rich royal purple.
Judging from you pic, Freedom, purple would look great on you. So would turquoise
Good color choice!
There is no outdoor light shortage in this part of the world!
My favorite color is green too, Kath. But I like turquoise. I can’t really see it in appliances, but I can see it on me
Turquoise? Seriously? Hmmm… No, not going with the color of 2010. I’ve been Christmas decorating like a fiend, and went yesterday to go out and get bows. Decoration shelves are BARREN. I read this morning about outdoor light shortages and I’m thinking, THIS is the year they decide to skimp on holiday decorating inventory??? Bah-humbug.
Love classic colors in the winter. Navy, forest green, maroon, gray, etc. Love brights in the summer. Yellows, Light green, and Caribbean blue.
Great topic, Kathleen! (heheheh)
Ah, come on Kathleen–you love maroon in every season!
Great comment, Kathleen! Hahaha!
