I know I’m supposed to either whine today or supply you with some strange news, but I have nothing to complain about (except maybe the fact that I have my annual ob/gyn appointment today–not my favorite way to spend the morning), and the only strange thing to me in the news is why when Tiger Woods announced he was taking an indefinite leave from golf to ‘concentrate on his marriage’ his wife didn’t snap back with, “don’t bother” and toss his butt out the door (hopefully she did just that, but even the National Enquirer hasn’t reported her doing so).
But–I did read something fun in the newspaper over the weekend, so instead of whining, I’ll share that instead. The article was about hosting a cookie decorating party (for adults—not kids). I’d never heard of such a thing, but any time the words “cookie” and “party” appear in the same sentence, you’ve got my attention. Here’s how it works–the hostess supplies the cookie dough, icing, cookie cutters, pastry bags, sprinkles and other assorted decorations, and decorative tins. The guests each have their own work station in the kitchen area where they cut out the cookie shapes they want. While the cookies bake then cool, the guests enjoy wine and snacks. Then the decorating begins.

By the end of the evening, each of your gal pals have their very own tin of delicious cookies to bring home, plus you’ve had a great time baking together. Add wine and cheese into the evening, and it sounds like a hit to me! (and of course we all know that calories consumed between Thanksgiving and New Year’s DO NOT COUNT!). I plan to throw one of these parties next year (too late to plan one for this year) and make it a new holiday tradition.

So, have any of you ever heard of this cookie decorating party? What holiday parties are you giving/attending this year? Are you going somewhere fancy, or is your idea of a party to cuddle up in front of the tree and watch the lights blink on and off (which, btw, I LOVE to do–while reminiscing about Christmases past).

Hmmm. Designated space in the kitchen. In my kitchen that would mean I could have exactly one guest……
Seriously, though, this sounds like so much fun!
COOOOOOOOOOKIES! I haven’t yet had time to bake Christmas cookies, but this weekend! Oh, this weekend I’ll have time to bake & to sew & to read & to snuggle up with my cat on the couch.
I would love to attend a cookie decorating party, but so far I’ve only ever been invited to cookie eating parties. These are fun, too.
Yay, it’s Sandra, and she has survived! Dr. Schwab wants her cookies.
Now I have cookies on the brain. I want cookies. And I had decided not to bake this year.
I went to a cookie exchange for years when I lived in Austin. Wasn’t quite the same as the cookies were already made, but we did go home with a box full of different kinds of cookies and best of all a wonderful recipe book each year with the cookies people brought. It was so much fun and now I’m missing it! Hello out there Terri!
Oh, Jacquie, that sounds like a blast! I do foresee a major problem, however. There is no way that I would return home with more than 3 cookies in my tin. The rest would be in my belly!
No parties for me this year. Just lots of time with family and friends. I prefer it that way.
I actually did this a few years ago with a couple families we’re friends with. I had all the cookies already baked before they came over, though, and just supplied everything for the decorating. We all sat around the dining room table and decorated. It was a lot of fun and my daughter and her friends had a blast.
I used to attend Gingerbread House making parties. Each person would bake their own gingerbread and cut out the house panels needed. On the day of the party you took your gingerbread to the Gingerbread Lady’s house. She provided the glue (Royal Icing) and the candies for decorations. She would walk you through the process and help you build your house. She had 2 or 3 dozen different types of Christmas candies and pretzels with which to decorate. She also made pine trees for the outside using sugar cones and green royal icing. It was a lot of fun and you went home with a gingerbread house of your very own.
That is so totally cool! I’m fascinated with gingerbread houses, but totally inept when it comes to making them. Doing it with friends — and a little wine could be fabulous!
I heard of someone having a Holiday Sweater party. You have to wear a cheesy or fun (or pretty) holiday sweater. LOL! I love that. I’ve also heard of cookie-swap parties, where everyone brings quantities of one kind of holiday cookie and everyone samples. I do not get invited to any of these fun parties. My neighbors must think me a Grinch. Or they’re all celebrating Chanukah.
Today’s Tiger Watch says no one has heard from him in a few days. Moving vans are out his house. His boat and plane have been moved around. His wife has been photographed in FL with the kids and no wedding ring. And gossips say she has purchased a 2.5 million dollar house in Sweden. Sounds like she might be dumping him.
This is a great, no, this is a fantastic idea !!! Never heard of something like that but that’s it, I’m game !!
I’m no into fancy parties anyway.
